We always had an array of food for parties, birthdays and any other family functions that came up. People always asked me for her recipes. Finally, one day I gave one out. Well that was the wrong thing to do. My mother banished me from the kitchen. From that point on all I wanted to do was get back in the kitchen to watch my mother cook. Eventually, my mother let me back in the kitchen. Thank good
ness because that is where my journey began. My mother was a self-taught cook who introduced me to my passion and love for making good food that touched not only the stomachs, but also the hearts and souls of the people. When I grew older, I had the privilege to help my mother run her own restaurant and cater to many celebrities who performed at the Carolina Theater in Durham, NC. However, after my mother fell ill, my learning slowed down as the effects of kidney failure impacted her. Even through her illness, as her appetite began to fade, my mother still tried to taste the dishes I made, along with reproductions of her best dishes. At times, she smiled when I came close to her flavor profiles and said that I paid attention to her all those times in the kitchen. In 2005, my mother passed away… and for a while so did my passion for cooking. I still had so much to learn from her and I felt I had lost my inspiration. After a few years, the Lord revealed to me that my passion, my dreams and all that my mother and I shared was not lost when she left this Earth. This is when my passion to develop foods and flavors to please people surged. I began reading, watching cooking shows and endured many days of experimenting. Out of this came the vision for RED ICE Catering. So here I am a self-taught chef with a passion for cooking and making people smile once again. From baking cakes, cookies, and pies to pasta, Chopped BBQ, chicken salad, homemade wine and more - whatever you need, I am your chef. For many years I have catered events for friends, family, and various clients/businesses. These events consist of weddings, plays, baby showers, and conferences to name a few. My dishes offer homemade flavors with the restaurant flair that many crave (without the restaurant prices). I believe when you have a passion and a love for what you do, it will truly show in the fruits of your labor. God gave me a talent and I intend to use it!
