It is with profound sadness that the Perkins family announces the passing of our beloved matriarch, Carrie Lee Perkins, who peacefully departed this life on September 5, 2026, at 5:12 PM.

Alongside her husband, Dr. Joseph E. Perkins, she helped lay the foundation of what would become Perkins Orchard. But her greatest legacy was never measured by what she built—it was measured by the people she touched.

For decades, she served as an educator, woman of faith, community leader, devoted mother and grandmother, and a mother figure to countless others. Generations were shaped by her teaching, her prayers, her wisdom, and her love.
Our hearts are broken, but we are deeply grateful for the life she lived and the foundation she left beneath us.
Teacher. Matriarch. Woman of Faith. Co-Founder of Perkins Orchard.
Rest peacefully, Grandma. ❤️

This is my personal 23rd year selling Pumpkins in Durham of the 56 years we have been in business. Today is the traditional back of the truck photo of the first batch for the season, so many more varieties so much more volume is on the way day after day, week over week.- Donovan

The last several days I've been dealing with a serious lower spine injury that has progressively gotten worse. As many of you know, Perkins Orchard isn't just a business to me—it's my life. I'm used to being out there every single day unloading trucks, stocking produce, lifting, building displays, helping customers, and doing whatever it takes to keep the market looking its best.
Right now, the pain has reached a point where I'm physically unable to perform many of the tasks that are needed to bring this market to life the way I believe it should be. It's been incredibly frustrating because my heart wants to keep going, but my body simply isn't cooperating.
As I work with medical professionals and try to find answers and relief, our operating hours may be different than normal from time to time. I'll do my best to keep everyone updated, and we'll continue serving our community as best we can during this difficult period.

Thank you all for sticking with us. It means more than you know.
