On Mother’s Day something magical happened! 🌸🐣
Amber, my sweet Buff Orpington, hatched her very first batch of chicks — and she did an amazing job.
Meanwhile, Onyx decided she ALSO wanted to be a mom 😂 She went broody just days before hatch day, so instead of waiting another 21 days, I slipped one of Amber’s newly hatched babies under her. Instant motherhood!
Now the chicks have two protective mamas, and it’s the cutest thing ever.
From 12 eggs, we now have 8 fluffy little troublemakers zooming around the yard.
Letting the hens raise the babies themselves is honestly the best — they know exactly what to do

These guinea hens are doing great, and I’m really happy with how they’re turning out. They stick with the chickens and sound the alarm anytime a big bird flies overhead. Raising them with Sly has definitely helped with noise control — they’re not yelling nearly as much. They’re hilarious to watch, and their feathers are coming in beautifully. Perfect for future fly‑fishing lures!
