Blossom Creek farm has new owners!

This is the last post from Mary and Scott. (See the end of this post if you would like to remain in touch.)

Six years ago we purchased this farm from Mr. Gary Vogley, who’d devoted much of his life to it, even on top of a day job. He had settled on blueberries as the primary crop - after growing apples, peaches, and even strawberries. We lovingly re-named our farm ‘Blossom Creek Farm’ and devoted ourselves to building it up, with countless hours of hard work and determination.

We have been proud of our efforts, and loved this farm, but changes have meant it is time to move on. Scott “retired” back in 2020 right before our first season, which means he has not retired exactly… so it's time.

The new owners have assured us that it is their intent to keep the blueberry operation running, which I know is of the utmost importance to you, the devoted customers of this farm! THAT was of utmost importance to us.

This has not been easy, particularly for me, as I love the peace of the countryside and have always loved blueberries, since we picked them as kids in Michigan. I never seem to have a shortage of dreams and possibilities, but I do run short of time for implementing all I’d love to make happen! There is much to love about the farm, but mostly we've loved getting to chat and know you. You are BCF’s biggest blessing, and we will miss you all greatly.

I will continue to garden but at our home as I did in the past. I may even have some raspberry jam in surplus to sell, so see below for a way to find out! And Scott will still have grass to mow.

This page (and Instagram) are now being transferred to the new owners, so, if for any reason you would like to keep in touch with me/us, please search Facebook for ‘Mary’s Blossoms, Jams, and Musings’ - which is a private Group page I just set up from my own profile page, specifically for anyone who knew us from the farm to join to remain in touch. Find it on FB, request to be added, and after answering three simple questions (to keep things kosher), I will add you to the page, at which time you can post to the group. Postings will be private to the page.

Wishing you all the very best in your lives. Thank you for supporting our efforts at Blossom Creek Farm for the past five years. We have every confidence you will continue to love picking blueberries at the farm!

~Wishing you peace, Mary, Scott, & Michael

I'm taking orders for blackberries, for pickup Tuesday (tomorrow) at the farm from 11 - 12 a.m. at the farm If you prefer pickup later today, I can probably also manage that. Message the farm with amount and cell phone number! If possible, let me know in the comments that you have sent a message to make sure I see your message. I also have ProMix potting soil for pick-up.

Since we have closed the farm for the season, we will pick blackberries to sell for pickups as possible. This evening we picked enough for the orders we received and we have three more two quart baskets available on a first come basis. You may message me with your name and cell phone number to let me know if we should hold one for you. I will be at the sales barn from 11:00-11:30 Friday (tomorrow) for pick up, unless other arrangements are made. You can also message the farm if you’d like blackberries for approximately Tuesday pick up. We will confirm orders with a text if possible or a phone call. Please note that for complicated reasons, we do not have access to Messages sent via Instagram… so please send your messages through our page. Alternatively you can call the farm number after 8:30 tomorrow morning.

No blueberry picking this Tuesday! Sadly, as Scott has predicted, the heat and monsoon-type rains seem to have hastened the end of the blueberry season early... While we see berries in the fields yet to ripen, there just are not enough blueberries for PickYourOwn blueberries to open on Tuesday.

We will re-evaluate the blueberry crop and let you know if are able to be open for blueberry picking again yet this season.

Thank you for being the best customers!

We will be open SATURDAY, July 26, from 8 am - 1 pm. The blueberry season is nearing its end! Last chances to pick berries in the next few days! We are picking blackberries for purchase in the sales barn. You may call ahead during business hours to place an order for blackberries for pickup that day, as available.

Remember in my last post I mentioned that Facebook had mentioned National Parents Day...Well in this post I've added a couple more photos of the many families who have come out to pick berries, three and sometimes four generations. What a great way to honor parents! Accompany them to pick blueberries, ask them to accompany you to pick blueberries....then spend time with them learning to bake a pie, or teaching them to make a nutritious and delicious smoothie. in most cases, we are with our parents for years, and suddenly, those years of looking ahead become shorter, and just as suddenly, only memories remain. Please make time for your parents, any day and every day that you can. A garden - or the farm - is one of those peaceful places where I summon the memory of those loved ones, including my own dear parents. Those are the times I understand when someone says that loved ones are kept alive in our memories and in our hearts.

We hope to see you at the farm! ❤ ~Mary

So Facebook let me know it is Parent Appreciation Day! I have something g to say about that, but first, let me tell you we are open today, 8-noon. You can pick blueberries or purchase blackberries prepicked as available. We advise you to call ahead and reserve blackberries if you intend to pick those up, to be sure we have them. They are picked each morning first thing, so are available as they are brought in. They will be in the cooler and go quickly, first come. (You can stop in before you go out to pick blueberries and we will hold them for your return).

Blackberries are ripening! We will NOT have PickYour Own this year BUT we will have berries picked by our team available in the cooler as available. Sold by half-pint, pint, quart, and two quart basket. You can call ahead - but remember our phone only works during our business hours: 8 - noon Tuesdays and Thursdays, and 8 - 1pm on Saturdays. AND YES! We still have blueberries! Hurry if you still want Blue Crop or Brigitta.

We are open today - 8 am - 1 pm! See my note for a special deal today!

When Niki and I went out to pick after work on Thursday, we saw there are still SO MANY Blue Crop berries in the field! However, we do not have a way of knowing how much longer they will last! The heat has been killer, yet people come to pick and return to the sales barn, big bags of berries in tow, smiles on their glistening faces! We would rather YOU get the berries than those birds or the ground! So hurry on over to Blossom Creek Farm, where you can commune with nature as you pick your own healthy blueberries...
..AND...to make the deal a little bit sweeter, in honor of my mother, Rose, who would have been 100 on July 16, we will take $1.00 off per pound of PickYourOwn BLUE CROP berries today, if you mention this post!

So many berries, so little time! See you at the farm! ❤ ~Mary

Good news! Tomorrow (Thursday) should be great blueberry picking weather, and we are open from 8 a.m. until noon! There are still BlueCrop berries and Brigitta for the picking, but don't wait - they won't last indefinitely!

The predicted rainy week seems to be less of a threat than the resident weather-man was seeing at the beginning of of the week (in our area, that is...weather around the country as been crazy!) We stay open on scheduled days, rain or shine, because Ohio weather is prone to spotty pop-ups. We always want to be there for you, especially considering many of you make a significant drive.

Don't wait! Don't let the Blueberry Season get away without you getting the blueberries you want this year! ❤ See you at Blossom Creek Farm!

We will be at the farm Tuesday July 15, from 8 - noon! Will you join us?

Looking ahead this week at the weather forecast, Tuesday is the BEST chance of rain-free weather! So if you can make it out to the farm Tuesday, do it! BlueCrop and Brigitta berries - customer favorites! - are loaded for picking...the time won't likely get better! AS they say, the TIME is NOW! Do NOT MISS YOUR CHANCE to stock up on our pesticide- (and fungicide-) free blueberries for eating, baking, and for freezing!

That said, we will be open this week as usual, rain or shine: TU & TH 8-noon, SAT 8-1:00pm. With so many of the showers being pop-up showers with spotty distribution, we can only control that WE WILL BE AT THE FARM at the designated hours to serve you! Dressed appropriately, we have had many customers pick blueberries in the rain (though we do ask that you come in if there is thunder or high winds!).

So -- YES -- we will be at the farm, rain or shine, during the designated hours!

This is the view of the farm from the south hill. SO BEAUTIFUL! See YOU at the farm!

Pick-Your-Own Blueberries at Blossom Creek Farm TODAY! We are now picking the big beautiful BlueCrop variety we all love to just eat. Don't forget they are great for baking and freezing as well, so you can get your healthy antioxidants year round!!

We celebrate all our wonderful customers, many who are a few generations of family, all enjoying a peaceful day out at the farm! We marvel at the beautiful children and how well-behaved they are! But we also know that children who are taking part in enriching and engaging activities such as blueberry picking, can be very focused. We applaud the good parents and grandparents who make it a point to bring the children out for this down-to-earth good work/fun. All these families and more came out on Thursday, many for the second time this year, at the children's request! Can you guess which photo depicts FOUR GENERATIONS? More than one have three generations. And more people were there than shown in photos...

OUR HOURS this week, as usual, are TODAY (SATURDAY) 8am - 1pm. Tuesdays and Thursdays we are open 8am - 12pm. We look forward to seeing YOU at the farm! (Remind us to take YOUR photo!)
