Dear friends and neighbors: I have dreaded writing this, but it is with an extremely heavy heart that I announce that Eastport General Store will be closing permanently on October 26. Our lease has ended, and for a variety of reasons I have made the incredibly difficult decision not to renew. As heartbreaking as this is for me and I know for all of you, I am choosing to view this as a blessing in disguise. I have so loved creating this space and connecting with so many incredible people over these past 5 years, but the constant struggles and stressors of owning a small business are very real, and have definitely taken their toll. It’s with bittersweet acceptance that I look at this as not an ending, but the beginning of a new chapter.
I am so proud of what we have accomplished and were able to bring to Eastport’s Main Street. Words can’t really express how much this experience has meant to me and my family. I’m incredibly grateful for the support that this community has shown us, and for the hard work and dedication of all of my staff who made this place a true neighborhood store over the years. And of course the friends, family, vendors, and fellow business owners who gave advice, lent a hand (sometimes literally), and have been a shoulder to cry on. Please know that I did not make this decision lightly. At the end of the day, this was the only conceivable path forward, and I’m fortunate to be able to close this chapter on a high note.
In the coming days I will be in touch with more updates regarding discounts, changes to store hours, equipment & fixtures for sale, and plans for a goodbye send-off. I hope that you’ll continue to shop with us in our final weeks as we gradually wind down operations.
For now, I just want to say: Thank you so very much, from the bottom of my heart, for letting this little store be a part of Eastport’s story.
