Here’s a life update from our home.

I guess when life throws you curve balls, you can get upset or you can just blog about it and move on! So I’m going to give it a try.Last Saturday after the store closed, I was working in our home kitchen prepping ice cream bases and pork to be pulled for our holiday weekend. Every time I stepped ...

We are open and well stocked! Pardon our puddle. Safest (and driest) entires are on the side of the porch. I’ll get my “staff” on that before next week.😂 I can’t wait to see you today! Open until 3.

Our fresh produce for the week is here! I’ll have rhubarb, turnips, lettuce, basil, thyme, squash and rhubarb, plus shiitake mushrooms. I’ve got my eye on some of these! Even though our kitchen abilities are limited, I hope to keep our meals as quality as possible. Like adding some of these turnips with a chuck roast and carrots? Or making a chicken Caesar salad with the greens? Or I might really have to find a way to make some pesto! Asparagus is done for the season, but we’re heading into carrots, beets and other local and seasonal produce. Come see us tomorrow, 9-3, to get your good stuff for the week.

Sometimes life feels like a swirl of unwelcome complications. That’s our current season. We had a water issue in the kitchen (little flood) that has led to this next unexpected journey. We’ll be rearranging life over the next couple of weeks while we work to get back to normal. We’re still open, still working and still available - just might be a little slow in getting back on things through the week! Don’t expect any extravagant food photos for a bit. Though it might be a chance for me to hone my “minimalist cooking” skills!😂

The pulled pork was all I’d hoped for and more! It was the most tender Boston Butt I think I’ve ever made. Just sad there weren’t more leftovers!

Chad shared this post on his livestock page. Those are some beautiful Boston Butts! Check out the marbling! They’re currently covered in our Pork Rub seasoning blend and roasting in the oven at 300 for lunch later today. Homemade BBQ is cooking on the stove. Smells pretty yummy in here right now!

Preparing for Sunday dinner with the family. I thought we were having beef roasts when I saw this on the counter, but it’s actually pork butts. The meat quality on these Berkshires is just amazing!

We’ve had a super busy morning and I never got anything posted! We still have lots of bread, 4 angel food cakes and several packages of asparagus available. This will likely be the last weekend for the asparagus. We also still have plenty of eggs, both chicken and duck. Come get brats, burgers and whatever else you need for the holiday weekend! Open until 3.

We are all set up and ready to see you tomorrow! We made more brats and Better Burgers, including our Cheesy Chorizo brats. There is fresh bread, Angel Food cake from Small Cottage Bakery, lots of eggs, asparagus and even some rhubarb! And we got a flour restock!

Our usual produce provider is on this thing I think I’ve heard called a “vacation” this week, so we won’t have fresh greens. Open normal hours - Saturday 9-3.

This week has been rough. It started on Monday when Jack found 8 of the baby pigs that were born last Sunday dead and the sow was stumbling around. It was confusing and catastrophic. As we tried to figure out what happened, our only thought is that the sow was impacted by lightning in some way during the storm overnight from Sunday to Monday. We think maybe the 8 pigs that died were nursing when it happened and the two that survived were not. Pigs are extra sensitive to electricity. We had hoped the sow would recuperate so she could care for her two surviving piglets, but she died as well. So now we have these two darlings that we are taking care of, hoping for the best. Farming. It’s not always as fun as it looks.
