The Natural Grocery Company Prepared Food Annex is an employee-owned market preparing wholesome, organic meals and sides. Soups, sandwiches, vegetarian dishes, vegan options, organic, fair-trade coffee, pastries, cakes and more. Our focus is on organic, Non-GMO, Fair Trade, sustainable foods and beverages. We favor companies who are powered by renewable energy whenever possible.

Come learn about and taste handcrafted wines from Tessier Winery with winemaker and founder Kristie Tacey on Thursday, September 24 from 5pm to 6pm at The Annex, 10387 San Pablo Avenue, El Cerrito.

Kristie Tacey is a scientist turned winemaker. A former published research scientist who studied protein pathways, she moved to the San Francisco Bay Area from her native Michigan to pursue a career in biotechnology, which included working on the Human Genome Project. Kristie eventually came to realize that winemaking was her true calling; and after working as operations manager and assistant winemaker at an award-winning East Bay winery.

Tessier Winery was founded in 2009 and focuses on small, hand-crafted lots of natural wines. In the cellar, they practice native fermentations and minimal intervention to allow each vineyard to speak for itself. They have selectively chosen organically farmed family-owned and operated vineyards that are in local regions that they feel best express the varietals they love and are inspired by.

There is a $5 tasting fee and you must be 21+ to participate.

The first hour of the show will be a presentation by Aguacero that focuses on the traditional and creative expressions of Puerto Rican Bomba music and dance. Bomba is the oldest living music and dance tradition of the island. Instrumentation is barrel drums or barriles, cuas (a pair of sticks played on a small mounted hollow drum, and one maraca. Voice and dance are a key aspect of the instrumentation and the rhythm and cadence of Bomba.

The second hour will feature a Batey de Bomba or a community jam where we invite people from the community to participate with us, dancing, singing and playing.
