Grateful.
Grateful for farmers who work all hours of the day to provide the freshest veggies directly to customers dinner tables. They don’t travel thousands of miles across country in a semi. They’re grown and harvested 20 minutes from your home, by humans you can connect face to face with, to hear about their families, favorite movies or books they’re reading. Exchange recipes. Learn about their growing practices and what produce is most exciting to them. How their winters look. Become friends.
Grateful for bakers and makers who spend hours in their kitchens getting flavors just right and thinking about what customers would most enjoy. You (the customer/community member) are at the front of their minds on non-market days! How cool is that? These bakers/makers are making tried and true recipes, recipes that have survived generations, hours in the kitchen and test batches upon test batches. Late night baking. Early morning making and packaging.
And last, but certainly not least, Grateful (with a capital G) for our community. This market has been in existence for 24 years and was founded by local people who understood the community needs—food access, at the core—and created something truly magical. This isn’t some pop-up looking to gentrify a small village. It’s a grassroots collective of people who believe in the power of community and supporting local economy. We are thankful for those that saw the vision 24 years ago—both vendors and customers—and know that the Elberta Market is and always will be here to serve the people in this area, local or visiting.
