Now December 2020 with 4 hives that are in good shape. Will vaporize with Oxcilic acid this winter and focus on getting back to 8 or 10 next year. But it must quit raining. Climate change is destroying beekeeping in Avery County...

It has been a while, we had a devastating winter and lost all our hives. On the upside we are traveling to Traveler's Rest SC to pick up bee packages today. And of course it will be raining which delays installing the bees for a day or two. It is doubtful that we will have any honey for sale this year. Our local bee supplier has gone out of business and Brushy Mountain a large supplier in Wilkesboro has gone out of business. It is supply an uphill battle to keep bees now especially in the rain forest of Avery county.

We have pulled honey every few weeks so that we could hope for a Sourwood harvest. We were rewarded with a few pints of local Sourwood honey. We will be at the Avery County Farmer's Market today with both Sourwood and Wildflower honey. Pints will be $10 for either, Quarts will be $20.

We will be at the Avery County Farmers Market this thursday with rich dark honey...$10 a pint....samples are free!
Right now we are working on getting our Sourwood sellers permit? the irony is ...no one seems to know what i am talking about...the state passed this in 2012 that to label your honey sourwood you must have a permit. So now we are trying to apply for that permit!

Ahh the rain....bees cant work in the rain....let's just hope for better weather! Stay dry in the upcoming rain events.
