Get ready to look up! A stunning Total Lunar Eclipse is coming, turning our bright white moon into a glowing "Blood Moon" for nearly an hour.
The eclipse will last for 58 minutes. That is nearly a full hour where the Moon will glow a ghostly copper-red color.
Why does it turn red?
During totality, the only sunlight reaching the Moon passes through Earth's atmosphere first.
This light is scattered, filtering out the blue wavelengths and leaving the red—essentially, the Moon is being illuminated by every sunrise and sunset on Earth happening all at once!
