Christ Orchard has been family owned and operated for nearly 30 years. The Midland Coal Company planted the orchard in the 1970s and asked the Elmwood FFA to manage it. Kurt Christ was integrally involved in the operation and upon graduation he began renting the orchard from the coal company. The orchard has grown to include not only U-Pick apples, but also U-Pick pumpkins, fresh pressed apple cider, fall decorations, mums, fruit preserves and much more.

Wishing you a blessed Easter season!

“…but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
Romans 5:8

And praise God that Jesus’s grave is empty so that all who believe in Him can have hope and life everlasting!

Pruning for 2026 is a wrap! Some days it was frozen fingers and some days it was scorching sunburn, but we made it through!

Although winter can sometimes seem long, we always know that spring is sure to come! Remember when the days seem long, there is always joy ahead!

Story Time! In the early 1970s, some employees of the Midland Coal Company had an idea:

Plant some apple trees on land owned by the coal company and have the local high school’s FFA chapter help take care of it. It would give back to the land and give energetic boys an opportunity to learn about fruit production.

When that group of high-schoolers first stepped into the orchard a few years later, little did anyone know that the 14 year old freshman, Kurt Christ, would still be pruning these trees almost 50 years later! But, God had a plan!

Even though we don’t know if these trees will still be standing in another 50 years, we can be sure He still has a plan and we’re excited to see how He keeps writing the story!

Beef Update! 🥩

Many of you have enjoyed our freezer beef throughout the last several years, and we appreciate your interest in it!

Due to several factors, Karl and Laura have decided to take a break from selling retail beef at the Shed. We will not have any available for at least the rest of the year.

However, they have a few quarters available that will be going to the locker this Spring. They can be reserved on a first come, first served basis. Please message us for more information if you’re interested in reserving a quarter.

Again, we appreciate your support of our retail beef, and will keep you updated as we see what the future holds.

Happy Birthday to my one-and-only brother!

He’s a great help around the orchard with everything from pruning to picking apples (when he’s not busy farming corn and beans). And he’s always willing to lend a hand with whatever project we have up our sleeve!💪

Have a great birthday! 🎉 Thanks for being the best brother I could ask for!

Did you know? Even though we won’t have regular Shed Hours until July, you can still stop by and shop in the Shed by appointment. Here’s what you need to know.

❄️We are available Monday through Saturday. No Sunday appointments.

❄️Same Day or Next Day Appointments are fine— we actually prefer them to ones days out.

❄️ Just call or message and let us know an approximate time and what you’re interested in.

❄️Then, just pull right up to the Shed and we will meet you there.

❄️Popular items are frozen cider, honey, straw, squirrel corn, fruit preserves, salsas, etc.

❄️If you have questions or curious if we have something specific in stock, just shoot us a message or call us at 309-446-3324.

❄️STAY TUNED— if appointments are not your thing, I‘m planning to try something new this winter/spring. Every couple months, I will try to open the Shed for a day, so you can swing by and pick up what you need without calling ahead. I will post in advance with the day and hours.

Happy December! If you missed out on one last trip this season because of the weather—don’t worry! I will be working in the Shed for the next couple days. Feel free to stop by between 9am and 4pm today or tomorrow (12/1 & 12/2) for your last stock up on apples, fresh cider or whatever else we have left in the Shed. I will post later this week when we officially switch to appointment only.

As always, call or message with questions or if you need other accommodations!
