We are slowing it WAY down in the green bean field this week. Did you know that even our fastest harvester can only pick about 12 pounds in 30 minutes? And we’ve picked over 300 pounds so far this week! That’s a lot of time for our crew picking beans—on average about two hours a day! Show us some green bean ❤️ and stop in the stand today or tomorrow 10-7 or Saturday 9-2. We will also have plenty ! The green beans are perfect, tender and insanely delicious. We love making garlicky green beans or adding them to a stir-fry. Green beans for the people!

We can’t believe that our 8th annual plant sale is a little less than a month a way. Mark your calendars for the last two weekends in April: Saturday and Sunday on the 22nd, 23rd, 29th and 30th—9-4PM all four days, rain or shine! We will have our fabulous selection of veggie starts, herbs, annuals and native perennials. Help us spread the word! The best plants grown by your favorite farmers along with Morgan Composting organic potting soil mix, compost and garden fertilizer (BYO five gallon bucket for best pricing). We can’t wait to help your garden grow and thrive!

We are very grateful and excited to welcome Tyler to our crew this season. How lucky that he lives very close to the farm and comes from the restaurant and retail industry so knows about fast paced, efficient work environments. He has been learning just some of our systems this week, but mainly planting with the paper pot transplanter and working in our tunnels (the place to be in this🥶). Three more tunnels were planted this week. Yay!! Beets! Peas! Scallions! Spinach! Turnips! Bok Choy! and Celery!

We are back at it for our 17th season doing our part to bring forth the magic that is inside every seed. The rest of the season gets too busy with field planting, weeding and harvesting to truly appreciate that it all starts with the SEED! That’s why we love ❤️ these first couple weeks in the greenhouse where it is our sole focus.
Broccoli, kale, cabbage, scallions, peas, lettuces, beets, radishes greens, and lots of new flowers were seeded this week.
2023 is looking awesome 🤩 with a great crew lined up; sold out CSA; fun, new varieties of plants 🌱 for our plant sale on Saturday and Sunday, April 22, 23, 29 and 30; opening April 8th; and our farm stand with some surprises opening Thursday, May 11th!

17 years growing produce here in Elsah and we couldn’t be more excited to be your farmer and see everyone’s smiling faces again in a few short months.

There are a lot of farm job openings right now but here is what makes ours different? We are one of the few family-run, CSA focused farms in the St. Louis area that demonstrate a working model of the scale, diversification, profitability and level of commitment required to make a living with no outside funding or off-farm income. Plus we grow over 100,000 pounds of produce annually using only organic practices with a small but highly efficient crew using the right tools and equipment to make vegetable farming as fun and easy on the body as possible.

If you love farming (experience working on a vegetable farm a definite plus), doing physical work outdoors, being on a high quality/high production farm, cooking and eating vegetables, and feeling satisfied after a hard day’s work, our farm may be a good fit for you.

We are looking to hire two full time seasonal field assistants (part time is an option as well), from March through November. Living 30 minutes or less away from the farm is essential. Full time workers work 40-45 hour work weeks, with one Saturday per month. We offer very competitive wages (more if you have prior experience on a vegetable farm), paid time off during the season, paid sick leave, free produce and discounts off all our farm stand products.

Please visit our website for a full job description as well as compensation details.

If interested please apply via email with your resume, cover letter and two references.

2022 you were an amazing year!! Even though we scaled back in acres planted, crew size, CSA members and farmers market, our family and Brandon still grew close to 100,000 pounds of food! Thank you to our CSA members who remain the ❤️ of our farm and have helped us invest and grow so that we can serve so many others and at our Elsah farm stand. We were also able to donate close to 3,000 pounds of produce through and our local food pantry thanks to volunteers and donors! Growing nourishing food and taking care of this precious land is why we are here and we are so grateful that YOU showed up and supported our family in this mission another season. 2023 will no doubt be filled with highs and lows, but this we know for sure—there will be plenty of amazing 🌶🍠🧅🥬🥒🥦🍅🫑🍆🍓 and memories made . Happy New Year!!

If you have enjoyed our produce anytime in the last three seasons then you know Brandon has played an integral part in our farm. Sadly, it was Brandon’s last day yesterday. He is moving on to new interests and new adventures. He will be missed beyond belief and every square inch of our farm is filled with his impact and memory. Thank you Brandon for all the cherry tomatoes you’ve harvested over three seasons, all the hot sweaty summer afternoons, the countless baseball games you played with our family after work and the best thing—all the laughs! We are so excited for this next phase in your journey!!

A gorgeous 🌅 a 🌈 (not pictured) and 50 degree temps to pack our final CSA boxes for our 72 winter share members. I had just listened to a fantastic podcast about synchronicity ( ) and then experienced it in real time. It has been an amazing season and it feels so good to end on a high note. Thank you again to all our CSA members for supporting our farm. It is our privilege to be your growers!!
