Potatoes 🥔 are looking perfect! However our last rain was 10 days ago and there is no rain in the forecast. It’s going to be a big job irrigating this field 🌧️🙏

How can you not love these Japanese turnips?! Roasted, sautéed with garlic ginger soy sauce, or just eaten raw like a radish—they are a nourishing, filling, spring veg that will be around for just a few more weeks.

It’s the final weekend of our plant sale ( Saturday & Sunday 9-4PM) and this year we are extending our free plant for all kids who visit for both days!! Diego and Lydia want to encourage more kids to get in the garden and grow something beautiful and delicious! (This promotion excludes hanging baskets, bleeding heart plants and geraniums).

We have been so busy this last week that we didn’t even have time to share that Carlos and Daniel are back!! They got here last Wednesday from 🇲🇽 through the H2A visa program and jumped right in helping us plant all our summer peppers and field tomatoes and w**ding, w**ding, w**ding! This particular visa program has seen an increase in applications by 30% which meant it took almost a month longer for our nephews to finally get here. Can’t wait to grow a ton of produce with our full crew in the fields now 🧑‍🌾👩‍🌾👨‍🌾💪💪💪

Wow! We want to thank everyone who made their way out to our plant sale yesterday. The number of times we heard folks say “It’s like Christmas” or “this is one of my favorite days of the year!”—all our effort was so worth it to see everyone’s excitement and joy.

And we still have a great selection for day two. I think we are sold out of a few perennials and bedding plant varieties but have plenty left to inspire your creativity and taste buds.

Speaking of taste buds 😋 D&M Farms will be back again today from 10-2 serving up breakfast burritos and grilled brats.

The plant sale runs today from 9-4PM at 22935 Chautauqua Road in Elsah. Credit card and cash accepted. See you soon!

We can’t believe it! 75 degrees and sunny for the opening weekend of our plant sale (9-4PM both Saturday & Sunday)—this almost never happens! It’s a sign that plant shopping and gardening is top of the list for weekend plans.

Other vendors at the farm: D&M Farms selling their pasture raised meats both Saturday & Sunday! Lighthouse Coffee (Saturday only) slinging coffee and sodas; and pastries to fuel your day from Faith & Flour.

We have thousands of herbs, vegetable starts, perennials and annual flowers that we have been growing with ❤️ and care for the last two months. Need organic compost and potting soil mix? We will have both from Bring your own 5 gallon bucket and compost is just $5/bucket. Bagged compost is $11 and potting soil mix is $13.

If you are curious about how we grow 8 acres of organic produce take a self-guided tour of our farm fields and tunnels. We also have a wonderful play space for kids of all ages. Lots of fresh salad, lettuce and spinach will be for sale too!

Make a day of it and visit Treehouse Wildlife Center for their Spring Baby Shower; the flea market is open in Grafton at the old Boatworks building; and for lunch and dinner check out Delmar Public House State Street on LaSalle The Old Bakery Beer Company and FLOCK Food Truck Park & Barfor lunch and dinner.

When you arrive at the farm pull into our parking area slowly, look for direction where to park and if our lot is full, park alongside the road but not in front of our neighbor’s house. We are happy to help carry plants back to your car—just look for our crew.

Access to the farm is through the village of Elsah off the River Road. Your GPS may lead you to Chautauqua but this is a gated community. Rather follow the lower road through the village of Elsah. At the back of town go left and at the top of the hill turn left onto Chautauqua Road. You will see our cedar barn with a red roof on the left.

Plants are our passion and serving our community in this way is our favorite way to start off another season. Thank you for supporting this “little farm that could” and growing strong for 20 seasons! 🙏🙏❤️❤️
