Good morning ☀️ We have another gorgeously sunny day ahead of us.

We’re headed outside again to get more plants and seeds into the garden 🪏

This beautiful basket of eggs is our collection from yesterday 🌈 there’s 22, not bad.

I don’t have much on my mind to say this morning, ☕️ time for another coffee and off we go!

Today was a pretty productive day all in all. 🌿

Jellybean and I were able to get nearly half the herb garden planted, seeded, and weeded where needed by lunch time. 🌱 Bubba played with Sweet Pea.

📚 We got school done between lunch and Sweet Pea’s nap time. Things went a little awry after that because I had planned to put new chicken wire all the way around the herb garden, but I couldn’t find the staple gun. Then I had to make dinner 🍽️

We had a delicious oven roasted chicken-topped salad 🥗 with hard boiled eggs and homemade croutons (the cucumber I bought from the store was so bitter we all had to dig it out of our salads. Yuck. Can’t wait for home grown).

Then I spent nearly 2 hours fencing in the garden with zip ties 💁🏼‍♀️ (who needs staples?) It’s very secure now, I just need one more small piece which I’ll get to tomorrow. I even found a really neat snake 🐍 skin shed.

I got everything throughly watered, chickens put to bed, and now everyone else is in bed too. 🌕

The “spit” on this plant is a Spittlebug nymph’s shelter. It feeds on the plant’s sap, then turns the extra liquid into bubbles by mixing it with its own secretions and air. The froth protects it from drying out, overheating, and predators. Nature’s tiny survival hack. These guys aren’t really much of an issue as a pest in my experience. 🪲

Good morning farm friends! 🪴

Jellybean and I have been working in the herb garden for about an hour now putting in plants and seeds.

Right now we’re putting in some echinacea and cone flowers.

I am extremely excited about this garden overhaul this year. Most of these plants are perennials so I won’t have a lot of work to do each following season. 👌🏻

I always miss the sunsets nowadays getting Sweet Pea off to bed, so here’s a throwback to just before we fenced in the main garden 🪏 in 2023.

Due to life happening and limits on how much time I actually have to be present, homeschool the big kids, and keep us all fed every day (who decided that one? 🤣) we will be holding off on our garden expansion for this year.

I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t bummed, but we also have to be realistic. The seeds I bought for the expansion space will still be viable next year so nothing is going to waste. What would be a waste would be to try and rush the area to be planted, which we’re already behind on, to get a subpar harvest or no harvest at all.

I might have to sneak a few pumpkins into the existing garden somehow though 😜
