Attention! If you have received a letter that is from Sue or Phil Deering it is a lie! We did not send it and it is sick. We have been dealing with this disgusting behavior and lies for two years plus!
These are the kind of people who want to run your village they think nothing of lying twisting the truth and apparently forging our signatures, ruining our reputation and then stand there sweetly and say “don’t be so devisive” in front of the public. Two years ago we received calls from this same group telling us “our candidate was a pig!” Then they smeared his service with their lies!
NICE FOLKS!!!

WE FULLY SUPPORT DAN DAVIS FOR VILLAGE PRESIDENT, HE IS INTELLIGENT, HAS SERVED OUR COMMUNITY FOREVER, HAS THE EXPERIENCE AND INTEGRITY TO LEAD THE VILLAGE BACK TO PEACE WITH INTEGRITY ONCE AGAIN!!

TO DAN PHIL NOR I WOULD NEVER SAY SUCH THINGS YOU HAVE OUR FULL SUPPORT!!!

DOWNTOWN EMPIRE RETAIL SPACE
FOR SALE OR LEASE!!!!
APPROX. 7000 SQ FT OF RETAIL SPACE WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR THE 2019 SEASON.
THE FORMER DEERING’S MARKET IS NOW BEING OFFERED FOR LEASE OR SALE. THE VITALITY OF OUR DOWNTOWN AND THE COMMUNITY IMPACT HAS PROMPTED THE OWNERS TO OFFER A LEASE, A LEASE WITH AN OPTION TO BUY, OR THE OUTRIGHT SALE OF THE PROPERTY.
The property is in need of maintenance, the building has been empty since May 15th. We are willing to work with someone who has a dream of owning and sharing a business in this lovely, and very busy lil beach town. Rent is flexible, and the space is available as a net lease. Consideration will be given to the business plan of each individual. You will not often gain an opportunity like this, to try a business without major capital expense in the most desirable location in the Village. We are hoping to give the Village and someone a fresh start, special consideration should be given to local farm co-op, garden center, indoor farm market, children’s museum, retail antique and collectible, resale upscale, convenience type stores, community bldg., storage, retail outlet, and much more, creativity a plus! Please direct rental inquiries to Sue or Phil Deering 231-326-2051. All sales inquiries should be directed to Laura Sielaff at 231-645-4898.

So Many of You are not just customers
You are friends and neighbors and part of our lives and our family!
Phil and I want to thank all of you for your friendship and support over a lifetime of owning our big little market.
We have decided that it is time to pass the baton on to those with a newer brighter vision. The store is in the process of final sale, to another family of fine entepreneurs!
Please welcome them to our community and support them with your patronship and well wishes! We will offer much of our little remaining stock for sale over the next month!
Watch for sales on most grocery stock items, liquor, beer and wine just to name a few!
This is a bittersweet time for us, it has been Phils life and we have enjoyed this little business together for so many years!
Thank You and God Bless!

These are difficult days for us, as we have made the decision to sell the market in hopes that someone else will be able to generate enough new ideas or promotions to build the business. Over the last few years many of our loyal customers have been disappointed by the lack of selection at the store. Phil and I have both tried very hard to keep up, but the support just hasn't been there to allow us financially to stock the store.
All suppliers have minimums and terms that means the bills need to be paid. Most minimums will be at least 40 cases and most terms are 0-7-14 days. Doing the math means that the grocery order 40 cases, the deli order 40 cases, the frozen order 40 cases etc. etc and all have to sell to pay the bills and reorder. Traverse has big beautiful stores and lots of selection, the little stores cannot keep up.
Please understand that it is not that we don't care for our little village, but half of our 350 residents leave, and the other half either work or are in Traverse City several times a week. We love Empire and always will, but the lack of year around residents will make any year around business challenging.
There are rumors raging that we will be closing shortly. We are trying to keep the doors open and have no immediate intention of closing. Noone knows better than Phil and I the impact that the store closing has on all of us. Our family is being impacted and is a part of the store and Village too. We are heartbroken but we cannot continue to financially support the business. We will need community support to do so, that is why we ask that folks try to refrain from spreading rumors about the reasons for the store to close, or when it is closing. It is about business, it is not about sewers, or anything else. Sewers would not correct the drop in business, pay the bills, or eat the groceries. It upsets us that friends and neighbors are using our misfortune to promote a political agenda. Thank you for your support all of these years and here is to hoping that the Village will prosper again with your support and understanding!
