🍌🌿 “WHAT THE HECK DO I DO WITH THIS?” — BANANA LEAVES EDITION! 🌿🍌

You’ve seen banana leaves in our Produce Department…and maybe thought, “Okay, but what the heck am I supposed to DO with that?” 😂

First things first: You don’t eat the leaf—you cook WITH it!

Banana leaves are used around the world as a natural cooking wrapper. They help lock in moisture while adding a subtle, delicious aroma to your food.

🌿 So what can you do with them?

🔥 Wrap & grill fish — Add fish, lime, garlic, cilantro and seasonings, then wrap it up and grill.

🫔 Make tamales — Banana leaves are traditionally used for tamales in many regions of Mexico and Central America.

🍗 Wrap chicken or pork — Marinate, wrap and slow-roast for tender, flavorful meat.

🍚 Steam rice packets — Fill with seasoned rice, veggies and your favorite protein.

🔥 Use them on the grill — Great underneath delicate fish or other foods to help keep them moist and prevent sticking.

🍽️ Use them for serving — Line platters with banana leaves for a beautiful presentation.

QUICK TIP: Before folding banana leaves, warm them briefly in a dry skillet, carefully pass them over a flame, or pour hot water over them. This makes them soft and flexible instead of brittle.
