WALLEYE FUN FACTS 🎣🌊

Did you know walleye get their name from their cloudy, reflective eyes? That special layer helps them see better in low light, which is why they’re most active at dawn, dusk, and after dark.

A few more fun facts about these Great Lakes favorites:

🐟 Walleye can see better than many fish in murky water
🌙 They’re often called “night hunters” because they feed most actively in low light
🎣 Walleye are one of the most popular sport fish in the Midwest and Great Lakes region
🧊 In colder water, they can live well over 10 years
🌊 They prefer cool, deep lakes and rivers with rocky or sandy bottoms
🍽 Known for their mild flavor and flaky texture, walleye are considered one of the best-eating freshwater fish

Have you ever caught one yourself? Drop your favorite walleye fishing memory or photo in the comments 👇

If you’re heading to the falls or exploring the eastern U.P., stop in and grab some fish for your next meal.
