15 years ago these two kids got hitched! Its been an amazing fifteen years and I couldn't ask for a better partner in this life.

Even on our honeymoon we were already sketching out the first ideas of what would become Salt Creek Farm. It took us three more years before we would move from Texas back to my family's farm in Kansas with two month old Stella. Then another three before we launched what was the first iteration of our business called Salt Creek Meats. And I was pregnant with Margot by that time.

Here's to another 15 years!

One day they won't have names for all the barn kittens. They won't come crying to me worried that one is sick or hurt. They won't rush to see the new litter first thing in the morning.

And while it may seem silly to try and save all of them, I'll do it to for my girls, their innocence, their love.

We bought a new to us calf cradle this winter, but I didn't realize the height difference until we worked our first bunches yesterday. Check out my make-shift step stool I had to use every time there was a bull calf!

A calf cradle is a small chute we use with calves. It allows us to roll them on to their side when I need to castrate the bulls. Theoretically, it's at hip height so it's easier on the operator rather than bending down and doing on the ground. But this must have been designed by someone tall!

The calves got vaccines to prevent illnesses; pour on parasiticide to help with ticks and flies, and the bulls were castrated. I knife cut our bulls rather than band because I feel like I KNOW I got the job done and because that's the way my father taught me.
