New Behind the Slicer.

Food Is Memory

(or… We Accidentally Spent 2,000 Words Thinking About Soup)

We started writing about matzoh ball soup, and well...uh, somehow ended up writing about memory, family, and the people who leave pieces of themselves behind through food.

Not exactly where we expected this one to go.

Why is food so personal?I was talking with a writer friend recently and she asked me a question that I haven’t quite been able to shake. Why is food so personal? At first, I gave what felt like a perfectly reasonable answer.Family.Tradition.Culture.The sort of answer you give when somebody asks a th...

NEW BEHIND THE SLICER:
***BONUS HOLIDAY EDTION***

“The Great Cheesesteak Lie”
or…
“An Education on Cheesesteaks No One Ever Asked For”

This one started as a conversation about Whiz, Cooper Sharp, and Philly cheesesteaks…

Somehow turned into a full blown existential discussion about authenticity, bread architecture, food obsession, and why a bad roll turns a cheesesteak into beef soup wearing a bread hat.

Normal deli behavior around here.

New post live now.

Everybody argues about the cheese.Whiz. Cooper Sharp. American. Provolone. Fried onions. No onions. Ketchup, if your goal is to make somebody from Philadelphia physically ill.The internet has turned the cheesesteak into a bizarre form of food cosplay where people obsess over finding the one magical....

On this week's episode of Behind the Slicer.

This one’s called:
“What Happened to the Jewish Deli?”

OR

"A Brief Emotional Breakdown Sponsored by Rye Bread"...your choice.

Honestly,
It’s about food, convenience, craftsmanship, and why some things are still worth slowing down for.

It's probably one of the most personal things we’ve written in a long time.

Give it a read when you’ve got a few minutes.

People talk about food constantly now.Everyone has an opinion. A ranking. A “best spot.” Food has become content. Something photographed more than tasted. Something inhaled quickly between notifications and whatever else the modern world is screaming about this week. And somewhere inside all that...

This year has felt like controlled chaos in the best possible way. Incredible opportunities. Unexpected moments. A whole lot of hard work. And somehow, through all of it, we’ve had the privilege of telling our story to more people than ever before.

Being featured on Good Morning Washington was one of those moments you stop and take in for a second.

Mostly, we’re just grateful. Grateful for the support. Grateful for the community that keeps showing up for us. And grateful that a little Jewish delly in Falls Church gets to keep doing what it loves at this level.

We don’t take any of it for granted.

IT'S THE FINAL PUSH.

Voting for the RAMMY Awards ends this Sunday.

We’re incredibly honored to say that Celebrity Delly is the ONLY business in Northern Virginia representing our region in this category.

That means this is bigger than just us.

Northern Virginia has one of the most diverse, passionate, and incredible food communities anywhere, and we truly believe our area deserves recognition on the biggest stage possible.

What started as Chuck Rossler’s small little deli dream in 1975 is now standing alongside some of the biggest names in the DMV food world… and honestly, it still blows our minds to be named along side some of these greats

For 51 years, this place has been about family, friends, regulars, comfort food, hard work, and sandwiches stacked way too high.

If Celebrity Delly has ever meant something to you… if you’ve ever eaten here, worked here, celebrated here, or brought someone you care about through our doors… we’d be incredibly grateful for your vote in this final stretch.

It takes about 5 seconds.

Every vote truly matters right now.

Let’s show people what Northern Virginia food is all about.

DMV-area foodies, this is your chance to weigh in on the Restaurant Association Metropolitan Washington's 2026 RAMMY awards.
