Vision, Planning, Revisions, Setbacks, and Persistence—all this and more describe the continuing journey of bringing a grocery option to Farmer City.

Here’s the latest and why 2026 should be the year Farm to City Harvest Store opens for business:

The architect is continuing his work on preliminary plans. We anticipate those in the upcoming few weeks. Final adjustments will be made and we will be ready to begin accepting bids for construction and rehabilitation work to begin soon after.

The building will receive extensive work. New plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and a complete cosmetic and functional rehabilitation of the building will need to take place.

We will share architectural drawings as soon as they are finalized and can’t wait for the progress of 2026!

In light of the first night of the Farmer City Farmer's Market tonight- support local farmers and makers!

When you spend money at locally owned businesses, it is understandable that those dollars directly impact the local economy as they keep local businesses IN business. The local multiplier effect is less obvious, but key to keeping our economy strong.

The local multiplier effect is the amount of local economic activity that is triggered by the purchase of any one item. Community economics tells us that the more a dollar circulates in a defined region, and the faster it circulates, the more income, wealth and jobs it creates.

Keeping dollars local is an act of reinvestment in your community. Buying local products and services and banking locally keeps money circulating closer to where you spend it. This creates a ripple effect as those businesses and their employees in turn spend money locally. Corporate chains send most of your money out of town. E-commerce sends almost every dollar directly out of the area.
