If you are a Cottage Food Vendor MIFMA has been working hard for you! Shared from MIFMA:
Have you heard the news? House Bill 4122 and Senate Bill 93 were signed into law! These two bills represent major victories for the Michigan local food system and the culmination of several years of advocacy from MIFMA, our members, and our partners.
HB 4122 expands the original Michigan Cottage Food Law to allow online sales, increase the gross annual sales cap, and create a voluntary registration system to protect producers’ privacy. SB 83 increases the gross annual sales cap for unlicensed maple syrup and honey producers and ties future increases to the Cottage Food gross annual sales cap.
What do these changes mean for community-driven marketplaces and small businesses throughout Michigan? The Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD) will have 90 days to implement these changes and communicate them out to the field. MIFMA will continue working with MDARD throughout the implementation process to support the creation and dissemination of information that will help you understand how these changes affect your operation.
In the meantime, stay tuned to our social media channels and MIFMA.org/News for updates as they become available.
