We’ve been quiet around here lately. I’ve struggled to find the right worlds to say. Some days I wan’t to write a 100 page manuscript, others days, just a few.
Our beloved, Elwood Vanderbilt, went to be with the Lord last week! We are rejoicing that he is in Heaven 🙌🏼 How wonderful it must be, to be reunited with the people he’s lost along the way of his 98.5 year journey here on Earth.
But also, a tremendous feeling of loss, when you get the privilege of having someone around that long. They become a magical, almost invincible legend, that lives in your deepest thoughts and memories❤️
Elwood helped put the Old in my Old Vanderbilt Farm 😅 He was my connection to the past- one foot in the present, and another planted in a time that was radically different. It was like hanging out with a time traveler!
One of my favorite past times was asking Elwood off the wall interview questions like: What was it like to p*e in an outhouse? Or how did you make hay with draft horses and no square bailer? How did you know the weather? What was your first date like? If you could have done anything different in life, would you have?
Tomorrow, we will be getting down in our finest red ( 🚜IYKYK) colored clothing and country western vibe accessories to celebrate the joy and life of Elwood! I’ve attached his Obituary with the details regarding services, if you are interested in stopping.
The death of Elwood doesn’t bring the farm to a slow demise, or screeching halt. On the contrary, an even bigger fire has been lit to preserve, defend, restore and grow The Old Vanderbilt Farm. Our mantra is: keep going ❤️
