J & R Deer Shop

J & R Deer Shop Family owned deer processing shop in the northern panhandle of WV close to OH and PA lines.

12/24/2025

Last night, we processed our final deer of the 2025 season.

We’d tell you exactly how many we did… but honestly, we don’t know. Somewhere along the way, Jax or Rhett (age 5 and the roots of our business name) spilled a Capri Sun and marinara sauce on our notebook. So we’re just going to confidently say: it was a lot. 😂

We are incredibly thankful for every customer who trusted us with their harvest this season. We take pride in processing your meat the same way we process our own—thorough, clean, compact, and delicious.

Being able to donate meat to the local Bread Basket, provide Christmas meals to local families, and give back to community programs has truly been a pleasure and a privilege.

Our small business continues to grow (something we’re beyond grateful for), and we’re actively exploring ways to expand our operations to support that growth in the coming years.

Stay tuned for next year’s advancements—and even more importantly, keep an eye out for our upcoming “Deer Shop Employees’ Most Memorable Moment of 2025” interviews. You won’t want to miss those. 😉

At J&R Deer Shop, we’ve always appreciated the generosity of our hunters who choose to donate their deer to be processed...

At J&R Deer Shop, we’ve always appreciated the generosity of our hunters who choose to donate their deer to be processed and given to our local Bread Basket. Those donations go a long way in helping families in our community, and we’re proud to be a small part of that process.

This year, we wanted to take it one step further. We took two of the smaller donated deer and turned them into ready-to-use meals, then personally hand-delivered them to help make sure they go straight to families who need them most.

It’s not just about processing deer — it’s about giving back, supporting our community, and doing what we can to help our neighbors. Thank you to everyone who donates and helps make things like this possible. 🦌❤️

🦌 Thank You, Hunters! 🦌

We want to take a moment to sincerely thank all of our hunters for another great 2025 season. Your continued support and trust in J&R Deer Shop truly means more to us than we can say. We appreciate every customer who chose us to handle their deer this year.

With that said, we wanted to let everyone know that we will be closing earlier than usual this season. We will not be open for the extended doe season. I will be returning to my normal full-time job and unfortunately will not have the time to properly accommodate customers during the final four days.

We also want to make everyone aware that our freezers are completely full with finished deer that still need to be picked up. We have a handful of deer left to cut for customers, but we currently have no room to store them. If your deer is finished and you have been contacted, please make arrangements to pick it up as soon as possible so we can keep moving and take care of everyone.

Thank you again for an outstanding season, your understanding, and your continued support. We look forward to seeing everyone again next year. Good luck and stay safe in the woods!

📢 J&R Deer Shop Update for Doe Season

We wanted to let everyone know that for the upcoming doe season, we will only be accepting a very limited number of deer. We have family visiting from out of town and want to spend as much time with them as possible.

We kindly ask that any deer brought in be skinned, and we will waive the skinning fee for this period.

Please remember to contact us before picking up or dropping off. We will only be at the shop when we receive a call — otherwise, we’ll be with family.

We will reopen Monday at 5:30PM, and during muzzleloader season, we’ll be open after dark only, as we will be out hunting as well.

Thank you all for your understanding and continued support!

📢 Important Update from J&R Deer Shop

We want to let everyone know that our freezers are currently full. If you have been contacted that your deer is finished, please arrange a pick-up time as soon as possible so we can free up freezer space.

We can still accept more deer — we have plenty of room in our walk-in coolers — but we cannot continue cutting until we make space in the freezers.

We truly appreciate your understanding and patience during this busy season. Thank you for your continued support!

🦌 A Friendly Reminder From J&R Deer Shop 🦌

We’ve had a few conversations recently about meat yields, so we wanted to help everyone understand a few things.

Sometimes you don’t get as much meat out of your deer as you think you should. There are many factors that affect how much usable meat comes off a deer:

🔹 Shot placement – A poorly placed shot can damage shoulders, neck, ribs, or backstrap.
🔹 Old injuries – Deer often survive past wounds from previous seasons, vehicles, or other impacts.
🔹 Current-season injuries – Deer can be carrying fresh damage that isn’t obvious until we start cutting.
🔹 Abscesses or infection – We’ve seen multiple deer with abscessed areas, and we will never process or give out meat we wouldn’t eat ourselves.

We take a lot of pride in our work.
We cut your deer the same way we cut our own.
No shortcuts. No swapping. No keeping anyone’s meat.

And just so it’s clear — we do not cut rib meat.

We are avid hunters ourselves and kill plenty of our own deer. We are not taking anything from your animal.

Thank you to all our customers for trusting us. We will always be honest, fair, and treat every deer with respect.

‼️ ATTENTION HUNTERS ‼️

we are at max capacity for accepting deer at the moment. We need a day to catch up on what we’ve got.

Feel free to call tomorrow to see if we have space, but most likely will be accepting more deer on Monday morning.

As a reminder, if we call to let you know your deer is ready, please come pick up as soon as you are able so we can continue to make space and keep the cycle moving.

An exception to this is if you are able to bring your deer already skinned and quartered, we can accept it. Thank you and sorry for the inconvenience

🦌 ATTENTION HUNTERS! 🦌
Happy rifle season, WV hunters!
It’s been a busy couple days as we’ve worked nearly around the clock to keep our cycle moving so we can accept as many deer as possible. We apologize to any hunters who we have had to turn away; as mentioned in a previous post— we refuse to sacrifice quality for quantity, and we would be devastated if any deer were wasted because we could not store them properly. Unfortunately, the current/recent temperatures have limited us to only our walk-in cooler for storage.
The good news is that the current forecast shows that temperatures are predicted to drop in the next few days which will allow us to use our outside cooler/storage and will increase the volume of deer we can accept.
That being said, we would like everyone to be aware that we will be completely closed on Thanksgiving Day— Thursday, 11/27. After a few years of choosing deer over dinner, we’ve realized our families only have so many get-togethers left—and if we keep skipping them, we might lose our spot at the table. So this year, we’re showing up!

Adjusted Hours:
• Wednesday 11/26: Open 10:00 AM – 9:00 PM
• Thursday 11/27: Closed for Thanksgiving
• Friday 11/28: Reopen at 10:00 AM

Before you head our way, please call 304-914-2281 to make sure we have space available and that someone is on-site.

Thank you all for your business, support, and patience. Good luck out there—may your shots be steady, your coolers be cold, and may the antlers on your harvest be as plentiful as the blessings you’re giving thanks for this year! 🦌🍂🙌

11/25/2025

We are officially full to the max please call tomorrow for availability thank you to all hunter and sorry for the inconvenience

11/24/2025

Good luck to all hunters as rifle season begins! 🦌🔥
We appreciate each and every one of you and look forward to seeing what you bring in!

📅 Shop Hours: 9:00 AM – 9:00 PM
If you stop by and know one happens to be at the shop, it just means we had to run out for a minute. Please call the number posted on the door — someone can be there within a few minutes.

🙏 Important Reminders:
• Please properly field dress your deer.
• The first few days are always extremely busy, so please be patient with us.
• Until temperatures drop, we will only be able to hang deer in the inside cooler and space will be limited.
• We will do our best to keep up with cutting so deer may not hang as long as usual. We want to accommodate as many customers as possible!

Thank you all for the continued support.
Good luck and stay safe this rifle season! 🦌🧡

🦌 JR Deer Shop Update 🦌

We want to start by saying how much we truly appreciate every single one of our customers. Your support has been unbelievable this season, and we can’t thank you enough.

With that being said, the amount of deer we’ve been receiving has been extremely heavy, and we’re concerned that we may not be able to accommodate everyone throughout rifle season. Our biggest priority is making sure every deer is handled properly and safely — and we refuse to take the risk of anyone’s meat going bad because we simply don’t have enough space.

We are very sorry if we have to turn customers away, but we won’t gamble with the quality of your deer or our reputation. If our cooler reaches capacity, we will have no choice but to stop taking deer to ensure we don’t let anyone down.

👉 Please call ahead before coming up to check availability.
If we are full, our voicemail will state that, and the gate at the bottom of the road will be closed. We don’t want anyone to waste a trip, so please make sure to call first.

The good news is that there is another Deer Shop that has recently opened in Bethany….. Shay and Betsy deer shop 812-241-5157 and we have already contacted them. They are more than willing to help and take any overflow that we can’t keep up with. please don’t be upset if we have to turn you down. We just don’t want to risk the quality of your meat.

Thank you again for your understanding, your business, and your trust. We’re doing everything we can to serve as many hunters as possible this season.
