Heads of lettuce will be at the Clear Lake Farmers Market tomorrow (Saturday) from 9-12.
There are 3 types: butterhead, a soft velvety texture, and a red or green summer crisp which as the name suggest a nice crunchy texture.

Have been seeing quite a few of the true ladybugs. They are good little natural pest control workers in the garden to eat the other bad insects like aphids. They actually do clean up the bad bugs pretty fast if there is a good amount of them. Also, a plus is they don't attack you like the Asian beetles do.

Spinach and some lettuce are harvested one leaf at a time to have a full leaf so will last longer for you and makes the next harvest sooner as well by having bigger full leaves. By harvesting thousands of leaves individually takes a long time but think it's worth it in the end.

Cutworms are annoying and terrible. So far they have cut off over 100 pepper plants in just a couple days. When I first noticed it I put toothpicks on either side of the stem to hopefully stop them from chewing through the stem but it didn't slow them down and chewed off 40 more after that and even chewed through the toothpicks.
These peppers have been growing since the beginning of March and took a long time to get to this point. I will probably have to buy some to replace them but it's not the varieties I originally wanted. It's never as simple as I hope for at the beginning of the season.

The cilantro smells so good when harvesting it. I didn't plant any of this first harvest. I leave a small section to go to seed each year and then have a bunch to harvest right away in the spring. This has been going for at least 6 years and working nicely.
