DAY 12. My birthday. I started the day amazingly and celebrated my 54th birthday. Then, boom. I lost all of my design files from my computer, and on the same day I found out I was being fired from my job, effective at the end of the week. I was very surprised and disappointed. Of course it affected me, but I didn’t want to think about it too much. I didn’t want what was happening in my life to become the reason I gave up on my 45-day challenge to attempt the U.S. Marine Corps graduation Physical Fitness Test.

I am 11 days ahead with my training, but for the past five days I haven’t trained because I had a very bad back issue, and mentally I’ve been struggling with suddenly not knowing what my next step is. So I took a couple of days off. That does NOT mean I’m breaking the 45-day challenge or starting over. I’m simply continuing from Day 18. I’m 54 years old, I was basically untrained for almost 10 years, and unless an injury physically stops me, I’m not giving up.

Life happens. Injuries happen. Losing your job happens. Apparently sometimes all at once. 😂 But I’m still here. I’m strong, and the mission continues. DAY 18 — here we go. 💪

I’m 54 years old. I haven’t trained seriously in almost 10 years, and I gave myself 45 days to see how close I can get to completing the U.S. Marine Corps fitness test. I used to be an athlete. I competed in Muay Thai, placed third in a World Cup and won the Hungarian Championship several times. Then life happened, years passed, and I lost strength, muscle, and abilities I once took for granted. So at 54, I decided to start again — not from where I used to be, but from where I am now.

I decided to document all 45 days because I wanted to show what starting again actually looks like. But today, on Day 12, I am incredibly burned out. Not from the training — from documenting it. I record from early morning until late evening, then go through all the footage, find the story of the day, cut the video, choose the music, edit it, and try to turn an entire day into a few minutes. It takes 2–3 hours every day on top of actually doing the challenge. And then 100–200 people see it. 10–15 people like it, and usually six of those are my family. Today, that really got to me.

If I only wanted to challenge myself, I wouldn’t need to record a single second of it. I’m documenting it because I wanted to share the journey, reach people, and maybe inspire someone else to start again too. Today, for the first time, I seriously thought about stopping the series. Not the challenge — the series. I don’t know what I’ll decide tomorrow, but if I’m going to share this journey honestly, then this is part of it too.

Day 12 of 45.

Day 9 was a very strong day. I’m really proud of myself. There’s so much going on in my life right now — taking on this commitment was a big deal for me.

My small advice for anyone thinking about something like this: take on only as much as you can actually handle. I train roughly two hours a day, but that includes travel — the beach, my morning routine. Mornings are about an hour twenty, afternoons are twenty-five to forty minutes.

Most of my training happens at home. I know it doesn’t look professional. But believe me, I sweat like crazy. You don’t need a gym for this. You just need to work the muscles that actually get you to the standard you’re chasing.

I love days like this — when I push hard, it liberates me. It makes me feel like I can do anything.

I’m Gabriella, 53 years old, taking on the US Marine Corps graduation fitness test — my own physical challenge. But this isn’t just about me. To every woman reading this: if you put your mind to something, you can do it.
