Dennis's Crabs

Dennis's Crabs November > February we carry Rappahannock River Oysters (shucked or shelled) Dennis’s Crabs believes in quality before quantity.

Dennis’s Crabs is a family owned/operated fish market; where we catch and sell fresh: Rockfish/Striped Bass, Blue/Channel Catfish, and Green (Live) Blue Crabs during each season. I am a 3rd generation commercial waterman on the Potomac River and Potomac Creek for over 60 years, now working with my son; our family dates to the early 1900s in the commercial fishing industry. Being family owned/operated we can keep our prices lower than a food chain or a larger company with higher overhead.

Happy Friday everyone, what a beautiful spring time day!

GOT 2 lbs. of mixed size white perch available for $2.00! They will until tomorrow.

Welcome to our newest followers Wendi Bourne Martin and Shelly Shackelford, we are excited to have you following and hope we may be able to provide you with some locally caught seafood.

Water conditions are looking really good at the moment, a little stained from the rains earlier in the week, but had some fist size balls of the red sea nettles over the last week which is impressive for this area in the summer but to be in March is historic. If you have been around them very much, the red is spiciest.

Please enjoy your summer like weekend and be watchful for motorcyclists and bicyclists.

OH MY, HAPPY MONDAY! What a difference it can be over a few days; last week cold, damp and dreary, this week sunshine and a spring in your step. Don't worry though, March isn't over yet, so don't put the jackets away yet.

An update on the status of the Potomac River. The Virginia Department of Health has lifted the recreational safety advisory for the Potomac River south of the Chain Bridge. This is good news for now, but unfortunately the bacteria may rise as the water temperature begin to rise, only time can tell. The Department of Environment completed it's latest water sampling on February 27, but didn't test at the same sites as previously, so I didn't manage to get any data to compare. At this time, we haven't seen signs of contamination in over a week and that was minor. Currently, the waters are stained with a higher than normal amount of paper, plastics than we have seen in a while.

On a positive note (sarcastically) I found out there is a railroad bridge that crosses Potomac Creek near Belle Plains. Been on Potomac Creek all of my life and talked to a lot of historians over the years, and as of this morning I still haven't heard of or seen one, but DEQ done a water test there, SMH.

In closing, we would like to welcome our newest followers, Jim Dunkle, Valerie Wolff, Edward Rowe and David Eye. We appreciate your following and look forward to providing you with your seafood needs this year.
