MONDAY SPOTLIGHT : CLEAVER
Gallium aparine or known in these streets as sticky w**d
Cleavers is a queen in the spring time and one of my most prized that I look forward to foraging. Considered a w**d and often mowed down ……she taste like if you were to sip a dew drop off a plant leaf after a spring rain - light , green, sweet, and fresh 🤤
Cleavers is considered a lymphatic, mean helps support the lymph system. Your lymph system plays a major role in your immunity and keeping your body health; bacteria, viruses , cancer cells, and other pathogens are brought there and trapped so they can’t go back into the bodies circulation - essentially a security checkpoint and a way to “clean out the trash of our body” if you will.
The lymph system doesn’t have a pump , like the heart to move fluids around so this is another reason why it’s important to be active , walk, move , dance, exercise, dry brush, etc. to get your lymph moving and not stagnant. Stagnation = heaviness .
For this reason, cleavers is called upon for heaviness, fatigue, stuckness , puffy eyes, swollen ankles, swollen lymph nodes, detox support, excess fluids.
Personally- I just LOVE the taste and everytime I drink it I feel like I’m drinking spring rain . I pick it fresh and toss it in water overnight for a sun infusion and strain it off . It feels like it cuts through all heaviness and puts a pep in my step in the lightest way possible .
A friend of mine blends it with water and strains out the pulp, adds a dash of sea salt and lemon✨ you’ve got options
We don’t carry cleavers dried - because it just doesn’t taste nearly the same, it’s flat and often doesn’t dry well. SOO here’s your reminder to go back in nature, look at the cracks between the sidewalks, the edges of the forest , and forage with care.
You’ll know her by her whorled leaves and that it sticks to your clothes like Velcro
