Summer is officially on the horizon here on Whidbey, and longer days mean more time for beach picnics, backyard gatherings, and lingering sunsets!

To help you stock up for all your sunny adventures, we are kicking off our Summer Hours starting this week! We are now opening our doors at 11 a.m. and staying open until 6 p.m. That extra evening time is perfect for grabbing a last-minute wedge of cheese, a fresh baguette, or a chilled bottle of wine for your patio dinner.

Please note that on Sundays and Mondays, we will be wrapping things up just a bit earlier and closing at 4 p.m. As always, our doors will be closed on Tuesdays while we head off-island for our weekly supply runs to bring back fresh, beautiful provisions for the cases.

We are excited to kick off a beautiful summer with all of you. Stop in, say hello, and let the gouda times roll! ☀️🧀🥂

One of the most magical parts of owning a small shop is that almost every product on our shelves has a story to tell. So, how did Steep Mountain Tea make its way all the way from Bozeman, Montana, to our little corner of Whidbey Island?

It all started with a friendship! The former owners of the company moved to the island, and their daughter quickly became fast friends with our oldest. When they casually mentioned they owned a tea company, I simply had to try it.

We brought a few blends into the shop, and the response was incredible. Suddenly, we had folks walking in and saying, "OMG, you carry Evening in Missoula?! That’s my favorite!" It turns out we have quite a few Montana lovers living right here on Whidbey, and we were officially hooked.

While our friends have since stepped away from the business, we were thrilled to meet Scott, the new owner, and we absolutely love the care he is putting into continuing their rich legacy.

We just received a massive delivery, meaning we are fully stocked with all your go-to favorites, plus a few brand-new blends we can't wait for you to explore. Stop in this week and grab a bag—we promise every sip is steeped in good stories! 🫖🏔️

We did it! We found the perfect lawn mowing beer 😉

Weltenburger Kloster Hell (ABV 4.9%) this classic Helles – the epitome of the Bavarian way of life. Pours a clear golden straw color. Smells of sweet bread, yeast, and just a touch of spicy noble hops. Taste follows perfectly with a subtle presence of each element. Its mouthfeel is crisp with nice carbonation – dry and inviting enough to constantly demand another sip. An outstanding Helles lager.

Rosé season is coming in hot, and we're ready for it! Today were sampling Smak's Spring Rose out of Walla Walla. Crafted from 100% Sangiovese grapes, this wine is clean, crisp on the palate, with notes of juicy white peach, asian pear, and green apple.

We've paired it with Isle de France goat cheese, and Cascadia Creamery's Sleeping Beauty

Our grab and go fridge is overflowing with all the favorites!
Farmers cheese with chive from Samish Bay Creamery, Chicken Liver Pate from New York's Schaller & Webber (exceptionally smooth, rich, and deeply savory, you don't want to miss this!).

Have you had the Hummus and Baba Ganoush from Seattle's Mamnoon? Their restaurant is no more, but their legacy lives on through their new retail items that we know and love. Paired with their handmade pita chips, this makes for a very easy lunch on the go.

If you stop by the shop while Rosie is working, consider yourself warned: she is definitely going to make you try Shakerag Blue 🧀🥃!

She took these beautiful photos herself, and even then, she insisted that "none of them do it justice." That is how much she is loving Shakerag Blue from Sequatchie Cove Creamery.

This isn't your average blue. It’s a crumbly, savory cow’s milk cheese wrapped in fig leaves that have been soaked in Chattanooga Whiskey. The whiskey-soaked leaves lend a subtle sweetness and a deep, fruity complexity to the pasteurized milk. One bite leaves a lingering, toasty flavor in your mouth that honestly makes you crave more immediately.

About the Maker: Sequatchie Cove is a family-run farm in Tennessee focused on sustainable, grass-fed practices. We love their commitment to the land and the way they honor Southern ingredients.

Come in and let Rosie give you a taste—we have a feeling it might become your new favorite, too!

Last Saturday was a powerful reminder of why I love what we do here. We were asked to set up a grazing table for a celebration of life, and it was a truly humbling experience.

While I was laying out the cheeses and bites, I found myself listening to stories of the incredible life this woman lived. It was a life that was far too short. What got me through the setup was the feeling that I was helping nourish her community during a time of mourning. I felt she would have truly appreciated the care I was taking—including her favorite cheeses and a mixture of flavors her family had mentioned that she loved.

As many of you know, I spent almost 25 years in the corporate world. Back then, I never imagined I’d actually get to pursue my love of cooking and storytelling through food. Biercuterie has given me that gift. When we share a cheese with you, it’s because we believe in the cheesemaker behind it and the joy it will provide. That same philosophy goes into every catering job we take. We are honored to be a part of your special events—whether they are filled with a mix of sadness and joy or a celebration of what is to come.

Thank you for letting us be a part of your lives. It is a privilege we don’t take lightly.

The "Homework" We Actually Love ✍️🧀 We are fully committed to bringing the absolute best cheeses from all over the world to Whidbey, and that means we never stop learning.

Rosie and Sarah have been hard at work on our cheese knowledge. Sarah is currently working toward a few professional cheese certifications, and Rosie is joining in, learning the "rind-tells" and tasting notes of every wedge.

We want to make sure that when you ask for a recommendation, we can tell you the full story of the maker, the milk, and the perfect pairing to go with it.

📸 In the Photo: Five of our latest "subjects" for study. You can see our tasting sheets in the background where we break down everything from the texture to the aromatic profile of each one.

What does this mean for you? It means we will have even more incredible cheeses to hit the case and pairing advice for each🥂✨

We’ve decided that Sundays at the shop should be a day for a little extra indulgence. Starting today, every Sunday is officially Chocolate Tasting Day at Biercuterie!

We’ll have at least one of our favorite artisan chocolates out for you to sample while you browse the cases. It’s our way of helping you discover the incredible stories and flavors behind the makers we stock—and maybe finding a new favorite for your pantry.

This week, we’re featuring a "global vs. local" duo: Pump Street Chocolate from the UK and Dolcetta Artisan Sweets from right here in the PNW. It’s a beautiful chance to taste the difference between Pump Street’s award-winning bean-to-bar approach and Dolcetta’s whimsical, chocolate bars.

Stop by today, grab a sample, and make your weekend shopping a little more delicious. See you soon! 🍫
