Rambo's Roots

Rambo's Roots Rambo's Roots is currently a small farm with a very big vision for the future. I hope that you enjoy what we have to offer. Welcome to Rambo’s Roots. Tyler

We utilize bio-intensive principles to produce nutritionally dense food free from added chemicals and fertilizers. This farm was born out of an ideal, one that realized the food we are currently consuming is not up to the standards that it once was. I was unhappy with the mass produced supermarket food that was missing much of it’s quality, flavor, and character. So I decided to take a different p

ath:

“To provide the most nutritionally dense food possible to my family and my community.”

I grow heirloom varieties as often as I can as they provide exceptional taste, nutrition, and greater culinary options. This food is best eaten fresh, the varieties were not cultivated for extended storage times, processing abilities and chemical resistance but for the best eating qualities. All of the food is produced organically in a bio-intensive system without the need for chemical pest controls or fertilizers. I strive to create a sustainable means to produce the food, and to increase the health of the soil as this will ultimately lead to the health of those eating the food. Food is meant to be enjoyed, to be savored. It is what feeds our bodies and should be of the best quality possible. Vegetables and fruit seem to have lost some of their prominence on our plates over the years. Which can mostly be attributed to the poor quality mass produced food most of us are accustomed to. I hope to reverse that trend because truthfully real quality produce deserves every bit of our attention. There are so many different fruit and vegetable varieties available that have much to offer it would be a shame to let them fall to the wayside. With that I offer to you the best quality food I am currently able to produce, and a promise to keep it that way.

Egg prices these days are quite the topic of discussion. This discussion has not passed by our house. The last few months we have seen low egg production from our chickens. So much so that we were forced to buy from the grocery store. This egg hiatus coupled with an increase in feed costs over this past year have yielded a rise in our egg prices.

Eggs are now $6 a dozen. This price buys you an organically produced egg in a homestead type setting. We do not have hundreds or thousands of chickens housed in unsanitary conditions. Our chickens are heritage breeds, and are inherently more resilient to this than the hybrid egg laying breeds. Because of this I am not in the least bit concerned with all this bird flu talk.

Our chickens are allowed to express their full chickeness. If our time eating groccery store eggs proves anything it’s that this way of raising chickens produces a superior egg. Which is exactly what we’re trying to do here.

Any conscientious consumer these days has a lot on their plate. Especially when it comes to food. What fertilizer was used? What kind of pest control? Any chemicals added? How much? What was the animal fed? How was it treated? Where did this even come from?

All of these questions and more can be answered by your local producer. Pay them a visit. Ask a few questions while you’re there. You might be intrigued by their answers.

We’ve got a steady supply of eggs available.

WARNING! These are not your typical supermarket eggs. Our chickens are fed certified organic feed and are 100% not kept in cages. No need to try and decode the latest marketing buzz word when purchasing eggs. Stop by the farm stand. Listen to a rooster crow or sheep bleat. Leave knowing you’ve contributed to a good cause.

Friday’s Fun Fact:

Asparagus can be started from seed rather than the more expensive crowns. One drawback to this is the plants take 2 years before they can begin being harvested rather than 1. The advantage is seed costs only a fraction of what crowns do. If you have the means to grow seedlings and would like asparagus, growing from seed is a great option.

Friday’s Fun Fact:

Our 2024 onions have emerged! With them our season has officially kicked off.

Also a fun fact. We’re still eating onions from last year and plan to for several more months. The Yellow of Parma variety we grow taste great and has exceptional storage capabilities. Highly recommend for any homestead.
