Well, I had decided to not put out much of a garden this year. Recent events have made me reconsider. So, back out came the Amish Paste tomato seeds and two lettuce varieties. The advantage of being a former market gardener is that I already have the knowledge of how to grow food ... and the understanding of how much work it takes. I’m here to answer any questions you have regarding vegetable gardening, in honor of my friend and mentor, Toni, who shared everything she could when I was just starting out. Just couldn’t wait any longer to start some tomatoes and scallions. Amish Paste are one of my favorites tomatoes, so I include them in the garden every year.

Prepping my Duganski garlic for planting this morning. Soil weeded and turned. Goat bedding mulch at the ready. Garlic is one of the easiest crops to grow, using little space, water, and time. Plant it now, leave it alone, then harvest around early July.

A great day at the Morrow County Fair market goat show. Champion Utility doe, Reserve Champion BBR heavyweight, three first places, a second, and a fifth, and Breed Champion in senior fair. There’s a lot of hard work and dedication behind these livestock projects.

Why I grow “Double Yield” cucumbers. Just today’s harvest from one plant... not shown are the 10 huge ones we fed the chickens. Already made a dozen jars of Grandma T’s pickles.

Picked off a couple dozen of these buggers yesterday and another dozen this morning. Chickens love to eat them, so they’re happy with this treat.
