As we prepare for OkraFest on August 15th, we’re reflecting on local partners whose support has been key to Groundswell operations over the years. These friends have bolstered our work through sharing resources, donating spaces, and collaborating on our programs—simply put, they’ve BEEN there for us.

Today, we are turning our telescopes toward a partner that has helped our impact grow exponentially: Galveston Independent School District! 🏫

Our deep friendship with launched all the way back in 2017 with a single after-school crew of 40 students at Rosenberg Elementary. Fast forward to today, and this stellar partnership has expanded to reach 2,000 (and counting!) students every single year across every single campus in the district! From hands-on garden lessons during the school day to healthy choices in the cafeteria and beyond, we are co-creating a healthier future for Galveston's youth. 🧑‍🚀🌱

It would be complete failure to launch without the incredible teachers, staff, and visionary leaders—like our 2026 OkraFest Honoree, Superintendent Dr. Matthew Neighbors—who believe in this vital work and trust our team to guide the fleet. 🛰️💚
