Acknowledge reality
What you fear can become less fearful when you acknowledge it. What you regret can become less regrettable when you acknowledge it.

Acknowledgement doesn’t make bad things go away. Yet it can clarify and limit those bad things.

By specifically acknowledging a difficult reality, you are able to put it in its place. You transform it from an overwhelming, nebulous, negative feeling into something more defined and manageable.

The very act of giving a name to something provides you a degree of control over how it affects you. The act of acknowledging a situation enables you to begin dealing with that situation.

As much as you might wish for something not to be true, those wishes don’t have any power. You, however, do possess much power, and you can successfully use that power to shape your reality.

To do so you must first acknowledge what is true. Then you can get to work and make the truth more favorable.

Task to be done
Refuse to get caught up in how easy or hard it seems to be. Just get it done.

Don’t obsess over whether it’s fair or unfair, or who is to blame. Simply take one step after another, and do the work.

Decide not to make it all about you. Make it all about the task at hand.

Filling your head with drama will slow you down and detract from your effectiveness. Focus instead on putting forth good, honest, effective effort.

There’s a task to be done. You have the resources, ability, intelligence, skills, and time to do it.

So put everything else aside, because that’s what’s best for you and everyone else involved. Then get to work and make it happen.

Steady efforts
Steady efforts bring steady progress. Yet the progress is rarely as consistently steady on a day-to-day basis as the efforts must be.

On some days the results will be more than sufficient to motivate you further. Many other days, though, will require some faith on your part.

You understand intellectually that the reliable, focused work you do is sure to bring valuable rewards. The problem is, sometimes those rewards don’t appear as quickly or reliably as you’d like.

When that happens, it helps to extend your time horizon. While you may not have noticed any progress in the last few days, you’ve likely had some wins over the previous months.

Look far enough back, and you’ll see that your steady efforts do indeed have an impact. Then look forward, visualize what is to come, and commit yourself to making it happen.

Keep going, keep working steadily toward the goal you know you are approaching. Even on the days when you don’t see the goal materializing, you’re getting there nonetheless.

Now what?
Maybe you need a break. Or maybe you need a push.

Both can be valuable in their time. In this time, for you, honestly, which is it?

Every person operates on different cycles, with different expectations, ambitions, desires, and requirements. So it’s important to evaluate for yourself what you’re doing, what you intend, how you feel, and what you care about.

Consider which of your options would best serve all those things going forward, and do so often. What was ideal for three weeks ago may not be right for next month.

What matters most is that you be honest and realistic with yourself. Rationalizations and fantasies won’t bring your life fulfillment, yet truth will enable you to make real progress.

Take a little time to figure it out. Then step forward and do what you know is best.

This particular place
You are not entirely separate from your surroundings. You are a part of your environment, and it is a part of you.

Your existence is always focused in a particular physical place. The attributes of that place play a significant role in your experience.

As much as you might try to escape or ignore it using thoughts, behaviors, electronic and mechanical devices, you’re situated in the place where you are. You can certainly move from place to place, yet you are always somewhere.

Though you might at times prefer being somewhere else, don’t let that prevent you from appreciating and making good use of where you actually are. Even if conditions are not ideal, they are real and available to you, and have value.

Rather than disparaging or fighting with what surrounds you, find the good in it, the wonder, the unique beauty. Learn what it has to teach, feel how it is to be in this particular place.

Right now, you are here. And that makes this the place from which you can begin to do great things.

Well tended to
A life that’s well tended to is a life with plenty of space for goodness. Take care of what you must, and you create ample opportunities to focus on what you care most about.

Tending to the mundane details can feel tedious. So it’s important to keep in mind what that diligence earns you.

It earns you the time, resources, strength, and flexibility to attend to joy, fulfillment, meaningful achievement, and love. It earns you confidence in your own skills, and habits that boost the effectiveness of all you do.

Dealing with life’s demands is rarely thrilling or glamorous. Yet the discipline it builds, and the foundation it lays, will serve you well in every endeavor.

You’re not really missing out on anything by attending to life’s humdrum necessities. You’re setting yourself up for saying yes to all kinds of great experiences.

Brush your teeth, do the dishes, pull the weeds, walk the dog, show up on time. Every act of diligence multiplies the good options available to you.
