I posted the following on September 18, and I've been hearing several discussions about it that are misleading or misunderstood. To clarify, the original post stated that any food vendors preparing food on-site at the market will be required to have a food safety license. I realize I stated this incorrectly and should have emphasized this requirement more clearly by stating "Food Handlers Safety Class and Certificate" instead of a license. With this class, you will receive a Food Handlers Safety Certificate. I apologize for making you think that a license was needed. What I meant to convey is that if you are preparing food on-site, you will need to take a food safety course, receive a Food Handlers Certificate, and present that certificate to the market manager.
To reiterate, this requirement for a food handlers' certificate is in place to help us maintain a safe and enjoyable environment for our community. For those vendors who prepare delicious items like enchiladas, tortillas, cakes, cookies, or breads AT HOME and have them wrapped and sealed for sale, you are exempt from this requirement!
