Another spring week on the farm has ended & it was a big one for us. Unfortunately we missed the first Saturday of our market season but we will definitely be there this weekend & every weekend after. It was such a big week that I overdid it and hurt my back. I’m fine now, just had to rest for a couple of days. Lessons were learned😅

The flowers look amazing and everything is on track for a huge Mother’s Day. We will be taking preorders on our website soon & I will post as soon as it is ready. We will still have lots of grab & go bouquets and arrangements ready at the market on the Saturday before Mother’s Day. We should have plenty but come early for the best selection.

We set up last week at Asbury Place for the second year in a row & saw a few familiar faces. The smiles the flowers brought was amazing & I can’t thank Julia enough for always supporting our farm💜

Lastly and most happily I announce that I am officially done shipping tubers & cuttings for the season. Other than a few local orders, which can be picked up this weekend at the market. I want to thank every single person who ordered from us, whether 1 tuber or 18 tubers. It was a great dahlia year and I shipped out over 400 orders. I appreciate the patience and understanding for shipping times and any hiccups along the way. One woman tuber shipping show here, Jason has to keep up with the planting & maintenance. It was crazy and I’m so grateful for the continued support over the years. Next year I plan to do things a little differently but tubers will still be available.

I’ll leave you with a few photos from last week and I can’t wait to see our local friends this Saturday. And yes that is a dahlia seedling already blooming! It’s not a keeper probably but still happy to see it.

This week on the farm. Maybe I can make weekly posts a thing, I’m going to try. This week I am down to my least favorite wash cloth. That means I have been so busy laundry has come to a standstill, spring on a flower farm is just that way. April is a blur but a good blur. I have missed the chaos & this winter seemed extra long.

What’s blooming? Tulips are finishing up and the last round of wholesale tulips are heading out Tuesday. It’s been fun but I’m ready to say goodbye to them. Maybe forever😂 Poppies are still poppin’ for a couple more weeks and next up are snapdragons & stock (my 2nd favorite flower). Also blooming are ranunculus, delphiniums, & sweet william.

Market update. We will be back at Kingsport Farmer’s Market this season starting April 25th. We will be there every Saturday 7am until we sell out. Fourth year at this market and I feel like a broken record saying this but, it’s going to be our biggest season yet! We have so many amazing flowers for our flower friends this year. Can’t Wait!

Mother’s Day update. We will have the most options we have ever had. Big, small, cheap, expensive, & all the things in between. I will be posting about some pre-order options very soon.

Hope spring is treating everyone good & I’ve attached a few photos of what’s been blooming the last couple of weeks. Last photo includes some flowers from our flower friends in our Virginia growers group, Terry & Liza. See all you locals soon!

This week on the farm. The first flowers are in full bloom, some double daffodils that put on quite the show. Tulips are right on their heels & we should have lots of options this year.

We are still planting some of our cold hardy annuals, but they will all make it into the ground. No matter what. Looking at you stock.

And of course my favorite, dahlias. We have hundreds of Pickin’ Petals original seedlings started that might be hideous or amazing. Only time will tell. We have lots of cuttings of our favorites and will definitely have some to sell at the market this April & May. You can grow a few dahlias yourself!

Tulip subscriptions are available on our website and will be starting soon. All other subscriptions are also available. This is definitely our biggest year yet & hopefully I keep saying that every season. We appreciate the years of support from all of our local friends. It’s been so much fun and we both can’t wait to bring you our best blooms yet this season💚

The best part of locally grown flowers is the constant change & seasonality of it all. Just when snapdragons get boring (do they though?!) the next flower is ready to take over.

I made all of these bouquets so they have the same vibe but each month looks a little different. The beginning & end are almost opposites and I love that.

Dahlias are my favorite flower of course, so why are those June bouquets taking the top spot if I was forced to pick a winner? Hope the throwback brightens your day🩷

A little late for it but, Happy New Year!

2025 was a whirlwind year for our farm. We grew more flowers than ever before, delivered more flowers than ever, killed a few less flowers than the year before, & generally flowered until there were no more flowers.

I wouldn’t change a thing & we appreciate all of the support over the last few years. I know 2026 is going to be amazing but this last year will be hard to beat. We found our people and our footing. It almost feels like I finally know what I’m doing. I should delete that, I know I’m going to regret typing that😅

I can’t wait to see everyone in a few short months, we miss our market friends & hope 2026 is treating you all good so far. Reach out anytime for any reason. First up this year is tulips, we already have our tulip subscription available to purchase on our website. It is only available as delivery since the farmers market won’t be open in time for prime tulip season. This year I went a lot bigger in the tulip department & the bouquets will be super lux. Same for Mother’s Day, but I will also have plenty of affordable options as always.

For all of you local dahlia lovers I will have lots of seedlings and some tubers available as soon the market opens. I will have lots of old school, reliable dahlias as well as some harder to find “unicorn” dahlias also. Any updates & info will be posted here and fb.

The reel is only a small snippet of Pickin’ Petals but I hope it gives you something to look forward to this season. Just scrolling & picking the photos made me appreciate how happy those blooms made me. And they still are even when it’s 30 degrees outside. I don’t think I could ever take too many flower photos🌸

Here’s to 2026 and to everyone who has supported us. Thanks for pickin’ us and our flowers!

Us with all of our grandchildren this Thanksgiving & it took a few takes to get a “good” photo 😂

🧡I can’t thank everyone enough for all of the support during the opening day of our dahlia tuber sale. It has been amazing & I’m glad there is so much dahlia love out there in the world. I totally get it, not many flowers can compare with their production, beauty, & range.

*The store will remain open throughout winter & the only change will be that the fall shipping option will go away in the next week or two. Weather dependent. Once fall shipping ends any & all orders will ship in spring.

*Shipping (fall selected) will probably start Tuesday-Wednesday due to our local temps Monday.

*Reach out here or on our website with any questions. Lots of info in our FAQ on website.

🌻All of the photos are Pickin’ Petals original dahlias that are getting to come back in 2026. Have a favorite? The waterlily dahlia is amazing but I always stop & stare at the one in the third photo. It’s a big 6-8” bloom that has a little shimmer sometimes with a hint of blush streaking.

Our annual dahlia tuber sale is coming up on November 7th at 7 pm EST. This is our third year selling tubers on a bigger scale and we can’t wait to send our ugly little potatoes out to our fellow dahlia lovers. Now for all of the details, grab a drink🧃

*We will be offering fall or spring shipping.
*Fall shipping is immediate and will begin the Monday after the sale & continue until every tuber is shipped out.
*To choose fall shipping please add the “Fall Shipping” item in the store to your cart before checking out.
*For spring shipping do nothing extra, just check out normally.

*Please only choose fall shipping if you are able to store the tubers safely. Dahlia tubers are a little dramatic & if you haven’t successfully stored tubers for the winter before I would recommend going with spring shipping.
*We are not responsible for any tuber loss due to weather during shipping. Please check your weather forecast ahead of time. Tubers will not recover if they are in below freezing temps. I will not be adding heat packs or doing weather checks, other than my own area.

*Our website has a FAQ section, please read it before ordering. Reach out here or on the website with any questions prior to ordering.

*We sell tubers of all shapes, sizes, colors, etc. A small tuber makes a plant just like a big tuber does. Some are the size of a battery while others resemble a baked potato. You might get all little ones, some of both, or all huge ones & that’s ok. As long as they have an eye they will all grow a beautiful plant.
*Tubers may be cut. Most won’t be but occasionally I will cut a biggin’ to make it easier to store & ship. It will grow the same as it would have before being cut. Some people like to check for rot this way also.
*Tubers may have dirt/mud on them.
*Tubers may have small scuffs, imperfections, brown spots, bumps(lenticils), or just be straight up ugly. Don’t judge.
*All tubers I send out have a visible eye when I divide. As they go dormant that eye can flatten out & not be visible until spring when they wake up again. Don’t stress if you don’t see any eye in winter. I only sell tubers that I can 100% see an eye on, I keep any questionable ones.

We are still going strong, at least for a week or two. Come down & see the last of the 2025 flowers, can you believe it’s almost over?

We have lots of dahlias with a little bit of the following sprinkled in: Snapdragons, celosia, marigolds, gomphrena, & zinnias.

We are in our usual spot & will be here until we sell out. Thanks for always pickin’ local & supporting us 💙

It’s harvest day! Loads of dahlias & a little bit of everything else. Those white asters are adorable & I’m glad the deers didn’t eat all of them 😂

We have lots of flowers this week but this is probably our last really big flower week. Dahlias until frost and everything else is slowing sputtering out.

We also have a few t-shirts & hats available. We only have about 20 shirts, a few tie-dye and a few boxy Comfort Colors. I’ll have more in the future, it’s so close to the end of the season I didn’t get many. We have a couple hats, trucker & dad hat style. $25 each, shirts & hats.

See you tomorrow & thanks for always supporting our farm. Every dollar you spend with us makes a huge difference & we keep growing a little each year thanks to all of you 🤗
