Local economy effect.

Used to describe how spending and business operations within a community influence local wealth, employment, and overall financial health.

I heard once that in Amish communities their dollars circulate an average of 7 times before exiting out of the community.

I don’t know what our town’s average is but it wasn’t until I heard this concept that I started to understand.

When you support local those dollars go right back into the community over and over.

It goes to payroll and job creation.

It goes to charity and junior fair sales.

It goes to local producers, farmers, and feed mills.

It goes to local processing facilities.

It goes to local accounting firms and legal services.

It goes to local electricians and hvac repair contractors.

It goes to local hardware stores.

It goes to local printing shops and marketing services.

It goes to local paper and supply stores.

That’s just us. We focus our efforts on supporting, hiring, and contracting LOCAL as much as possible.

I doubt our big chain grocery stores have the same priorities.

Apparently, a whole lot of you had the same thought this week. đŸ‡șđŸ‡žđŸ„©

“If I want American-raised beef, I’m going to buy it from an American farmer.”

Our orders have EXPLODED.

And while everyone debates what should happen next with beef in this country, we’ll keep doing what we’ve been doing for the last decade:

Raising cattle here in Ohio.
Working with local farm families.
Processing close to home.
And telling you exactly where your food comes from.

No guessing at the grocery store.

No wondering where the animal was raised.

Just real food from real farm families you can actually know.

Thank you to every single person who has chosen to support local agriculture this week. We don't take it for granted.

đŸ‡ș🇾 Know your farmer. Know your food.

Did you know that a single package of ground beef bought from the grocery store is trim ground from dozens if not hundreds of animals?

Ours comes from ONE. One you know where it came from. How it was raised and who fed it.

That’s the local difference.

“Unfortunately, Americans can’t distinguish domestic beef from imported beef under our current labeling policy.

We think that a better solution would be requiring Mandatory Country of Origin Labeling (mCOOL) on all beef. This would allow consumers who want American raised beef to know that’s what they are getting. At the same time, it will allow consumers who just want cheaper prices to choose foreign raised and slaughtered beef.”

White Oak Pastures

We can’t say it any better ourselves. You may never know the whole story from a product purchased on the grocery store shelf.

I can probably take a guess given over 80% of U.S. beef processing is controlled by just four companies, and some of them source cattle internationally. That’s fine. It gives the consumer options, but we also need to provide the consumer with the tools to choose what’s right for their families.

There are so many wonderful farm families out there raising local foods for their friends and neighbors. We are grateful that so many of you choose us. But if we aren’t the right fit, there are plenty more.

The only way to fight back from a food system that has become increasingly disconnected from the people it feeds is to choose local as often as you can.

It doesn’t have to happen all at once. Start with one protein. One purchase. One farmer.

The resilience of our food system depends on it.
