Smith Farms Smith Farms is a family-owned farm located in northeast Guilford County, 6 miles north of Gibsonville. We are open seasonally from April - Oct.

We offer locally grown plants and farm-fresh produce that we raise in our greenhouses and on our family farm. Each spring, our greenhouses are full of plants; ferns, geraniums, hanging baskets, bedding plants and vegetable starter plants, for sale to the public. We also raise our own fruit and vegetable plants from seed that we plant on our family farm. Our field-grown produce offerings change wit

h the seasons. Traditionally, standard crops that grow well in North Carolina include: strawberries, cabbage, onions, broccoli, cauliflower, squash, zucchini, cucumbers, blueberries, peppers, potatoes, corn, tomatoes, green beans, eggplant, cantaloupe, watermelon, field peas, lima beans, October beans and sweet potatoes! These are available at our various markets which are; our certified roadside stand located at the farm, the Elon Farmers Market, the Greensboro Farmers Curb Market and the Piedmont Triad Farmers Market. We look forward to meeting you and serving you with quality products and friendly customer service!

Here we are - laying more rows of white plastic, for summer crops ready to go in the ground. In the spring, we lay rows of black plastic, because the dark color absorbs the sun, warms the ground underneath and protects plants on cold nights. For all the opposite reasons, we lay white plastic for our summer crops - because it reflects the intense summer sun and keeps the plants a little cooler! 😮 But this year, we are covering more plant rows with plastic - because we are dangerously low on water sources - our ponds are already down 60-70% in June and we still have 5 months of growing season! By laying plastic with drip tape underneath, we can conserve water - the plastic keeps the water from evaporating into the air so we use less water to irrigate the crops! Late summer crops are going to be in a lot of trouble if we don’t start gaining ground on our average rain fall totals! 🧑‍🌾 🚜

When our crops are plentiful, we form partnerships with local food banks, including "Bread of Life Food Pantry", to provide recipients with fresh food items, in addition to the standard shelf-stable items that are distributed. Hopefully, this week’s squash and zucchini donation made someone smile and provided a nutritious meal! 🛒

We still have a great selection on 4” annuals - that can be grouped to make some colorful eye-catching patio planters! Try this sun-loving combination of lantana in the back for height, sunpatiens in the center for a “filler” and scaevola in the front to spill out of your planter! 😍. Use the “thriller / filler / spiller” planting rule and enjoy an unlimited number of combinations - all for fantastic “end of season” prices!! 🌺 🌼
