Thank you for all for the wonderful messages and comments on our retirement. There is someone taking over the store please continue to go visit. We appreciate all the memories and friendships we have developed over the years. Please come by on Sun. August 31st to celebrate Steve and Angie’s retirement.

End of an Era

Over the last 70 years, Layne Country Store has been a place where families have come to walk down memory lane and gather some goodies rarely found elsewhere. Carlton and Phyllis Layne established the store in 1954. They raised 3 boys and many grandchildren in the store all while running a successful business. In 1999, Phyllis passed away and Carlton continued to run the store until he passed in 2013. Their sons, Steve and Michael Layne, decided to carry on the family business with the help of the whole family.
Steve and Angela Layne have been the heart and backbone of this store over the last decade. While running daily operation, they tried providing the best service and products they could find. The store business has increased with each passing year, bringing in so many new faces and enjoyable encounters. The store has customers every day from all over the country asking what “hoop” cheese is or wanting a country ham sandwich. Due to the increase in business and a decline in health, Steve and Angie have decided it is time for them to retire. This decision was a hard one to make but the physical demands of the store daily have become more than they can handle.
The end of August will be the end of the Laynes era. We are unsure of the direction the store will take. We are very thankful for every patron that has walked through the doors.
