💰 While Liberty Execs Take Home Millions, You’re Being Asked to Pay Their Bill
Liberty Utilities, and their Canadian parent company Algonquin Power & Utilities Corp, are demanding a $153 million rate hike that would drive up monthly electric bills by 30% or more for families, renters, and businesses in Joplin and across southwest Missouri.
Yet while they cry poverty, Liberty executives are pocketing millions in compensation:
Arun Banskota, CEO of Algonquin Power, made over $8.2 million in total compensation in recent years — even as the company racked up losses from failed projects.
Executive bonuses and stock awards have surged, even while Liberty seeks to pass unprofitable business decisions onto YOU, the captive ratepayer.
Liberty made the decision to shut down the newly upgraded Asbury Power Plant, which was modernized under the Obama-era “clean coal” program — costing taxpayers and ratepayers hundreds of millions. Now, with no competition and no alternative provider, Liberty wants you to cover the cost of their bad decisions.
Sadly, this is what happens when government allows monopolies, and businesses have no competition = no accountability = hurts consumers!
