It all started in the little town of Grand Rapids MI, where a woman’s dream came true. Vasumathi grew up reading inspiring literature about saints, poets, leaders and entrepreneurs around the world. She envisioned operating a business of her own that would benefit the community but as time passed she sacrificed her dreams to raise her children. In 2005, Vasumathi was presented with the opportunity of owning an Indian grocery store. The business was only a year old and was in need of drastic changes and improvements. Vasumathi seized this opportunity to fulfill her dream, and the timing could not have been any better since both her children were in college. Vasumathi’s family understood her aspirations and determination and encouraged her to invest in the business. In 2005, Vasumathi took over Spice of India. Through her family's support, hard work, sheer determination and philosophy of self-improvement, Vasumathi spear headed the business to successfully provide a wide array of products. We also owe our gratitude and a large part of our success to our customers who have helped us grow, welcomed us to their community and expanded to a larger location. Though we moved to a bigger location, we still strive for our philosophies and hope to continue to serve our community.
