Survival Advisory : “KARENS’ of NEVADA COUNTY”

“Karen”
/kəˈren/
noun

“An entitled, self-appointed Director of Other People’s Business who demands to speak to the manager”

….unaware that, unfortunately, I am the manager.

But beware: the Nevada County Karen disguises herself well.

She’s the ecstatic-dance yogi preaching Om Shanti, peace and love while passing you on Highway 49 at 83 mph and flipping you the bird through a cloud of palo santo smoke.
Namaste, Karen🧘‍♀️

She the one who trolls every single post in Nevada County Peeps with the exact same sentiment:
“THIS MUST BE AI! THERE’S A SPECIAL PLACE IN HELL FOR PEOPLE LIKE YOU!”

Aw, Karen. It wouldn’t be hell if you weren’t there supervising it!

She’s the complete stranger who asks:

“So, when are you due? And who’s the father?”

No, Karen. It’s Fat Friday. I’m just bloated.

She’s currently standing outside the Nevada county fair screaming:

“TEN DOLLARS FOR $ #%ing PARKING?!”

Ma’am, you drove 45 minutes to spend $17 on a mushroom elixir served by a barefoot man named Moondog……all this effin and jeffin and this isn’t even the strangest financial decision you’ll make today…..

She’s always one minor inconvenience away from requesting the manager, calling the police, or writing a 14-paragraph warning to the community on Nevada County Peeps. About what? No one knows.
We thank you for your service.

Fortunately, the Grass Valley Certified Farmers Market is still FREE to enter, and parking is FREE too.
Free giggles, free peach samples, free smiles, and at least three “Karen’s” offering free unsolicited advice to anyone unlucky enough to stand in their crosshairs.

That’s right folks,
In a world full of “Karens” ?
: be a farmers market peach: sweet, locally grown, and capable of minding your own pit.

Come shop Saturday!
Locally grown produce, hand crafted goods, delicious food and the vibey-est of VIBES! ✌️

DEPARTMENT OF FERAL WELLNESS: TUESDAY RECOVERY BULLETIN

Good morning, Nevada County.

Against all available evidence, it is almost Tuesday.

Half the county spent the weekend at Jerry Bash wearing tie-dye and dancing to a 19-minute guitar solo.

The other half disappeared into the forest for four days of bass music and is currently sitting cross-legged in a dirt parking lot watching a pinecone breathe.

Both groups:
Won’t eat GMO corn.
Will consume something called “Galaxy Dust” handed to them by a stranger operating out of a 2003 Honda Element.

One half:
“What a long strange trip it’s been.”

Other half:
“Has anyone seen my shoes?”

The remaining 6% spent the weekend at the Yuba River, despite the fact that mathematically there should not be a remaining 6%.

Nobody knows where they came from.

At 11:11 am,
They arrived in a 1997 Subaru
containing nine people, eleven dogs, one paddleboard, no shirts, and $14,000 of recreational gear, despite no identifiable source of income.

Scientists remain baffled.

Meanwhile, Todd stayed home to tend his “medicine” plants because he remains absolutely convinced that THIS is the harvest that finally allows him to quit the job he has never had.

Nevada County has always attracted ambitious people.

In 1849, thousands crossed the continent risking death to dig gold out of mountains.

In 2026, “Cedar” won’t drive 11 minutes into town for a job because “I don’t really thrive under hierarchical structures.”

Nobody really knows what Jim-Bob does for money.

Moon Dog, on the other hand, has been “self-employed” since 2007 and his primary client appears to be his mother.

But enough economic analysis.

Ya’all people need some nutrients.

THE TUESDAY Grass Valley FARMERS MARKET, (we got you, boo!)

Please come purchase something containing an actual vitamin.

Eat a peach.
Buy a cucumber.
Hydrate.
Locate your Subaru.

DEPARTMENT OF FERAL WELLNESS

Official Public Advisory

Due to a concerning spike in Nevada County activity, the Department is raising this Saturday’s Farmers Market threat level from “Crunchy” to “Extremely Granola.”

Residents should prepare accordingly.

Current hazards include:

A man named Cricket has been observed teaching his Chia Pet about boundaries.

A woman wearing overalls made entirely of pockets has disappeared into the back of someone’s Astro Van. Witnesses report she came back laughing at a carrot for reasons still under investigation.

Flock cameras have confirmed that no one actually drives the speed limit on Highway 49. You’re either doing 11 mph looking for a place to triple park, or 84 mph because you’re late for ecstatic dance.

If someone introduces themselves as “just a simple person…”
…prepare for the most complicated conversation of your life.

Someone has started describing their compost pile as “moody” and asked for patience as it “processes abandonment.”

Two people wearing identical handmade tin-foil hats have spotted each other from across the market.

A mating dance has begun.
(Please give them space.)

Authorities are asking residents to stop asking the flower vendor if the flowers are “happy.”
They’re flowers, Karen.
They’re doing their best.

FINAL WARNING

If you hear the words…

“Hey… can I show you something real quick?”

Leave.

Immediately.

There is a 97% chance you’re about to spend six hours moving river rocks for a community art project that was never approved by anyone.

The Department thanks you for your cooperation.

May your peaches be ripe.

May your reusable bags actually make it out of the car.

And may you never accidentally make eye contact with the person offering free kefir grains.

Godspeed.

***This advisory has been approved by absolutely nobody, but spiritually endorsed by atleast four ravens.

Just Another Tuesday in Nevada County…

6:04 AM – Raley’s Front Door Ro -Sham -Bo
A man named Moon-Dog has been explaining mushroom spores to a Golden Retriever for 36 minutes.

6:05 AM
random stranger approaches with a dog bone but can’t determine which party it’s intended for.

8:45 AM – Farmers Market Gridlock on (Aisle 4)
A customer has spent 45 minutes deciding between two identical nectarines.
At 46 min, decision is made to instead purchase a perfectly under-considered plum.

9:01 AM – Broken Records
The peach vendor has now heard,
“I’m just looking…”
for the 37th time today.
(And holding up surprisingly well.)

9:02 AM – Medical Update
A small child named “Henry” is currently roaming the market informing anyone who will listen that he’s allergic to butterflies, blueberries, the entire state of Hawaii…apparently.
Medical professionals remain baffled, but calm.
Other residents report being struck with “cuteness overloads”.

9:06 AM – IS this a man or a Possible Plant?
A man wearing Tevas with knee-high socks has been standing so perfectly still for the last 27 minutes that we’re no longer sure if he’s shopping…
…or photosynthesizing.

9:18 AM – Service Animal Review
Moon-Dog insists his dog is a “service animal.”

The dog, now considered an expert in mycology, has invited six complete strangers to “come by later.”

No one knows where “later” is.

Nevada County Cross-Contamination Advisory

Please remain calm. Chances of the “silliness” infecting you is higher than typically seen around this time of season.

Please :
Do not approach anyone carrying both a didgeridoo and a heirloom tomato.

They’re usually friendly…
…but easily distracted.

This is after all- : just another Tuesday in Nevada County.

THE FERAL WELLNESS COMMITTEE HAS ISSUED A TUESDAY ADVISORY for Nevada County:

In a world of “Karens”… be one minor inconvenience away from starting a bluegrass band instead of a confrontation.

Please stop introducing yourself to strangers by explaining your mushroom microdosing schedule.

Please ground yourself before leaving a questionable 4 day bass party at a place called the “Ascension Dimension”. You are levitating above the nectarines again, Moonchild, and no one likes a hover-er.

The Feral Wellness Committee reminds residents: Please don’t be that guy at the far end of Yuba river. You know… the one completely dressed. (Also, for the love of all things holy, don’t overcorrect. )

No, it’s not 11:11, am, the basil did not “choose you.” But a shower might have…..

Little Gerald, your hamster: does NOT need his own LinkedIn account. He already has a full time employment contract finding sunflower seeds for his cheeks. Respectfully, It’s you who needs one, sir.

And if you lock eyes with someone over the heirloom tomatoes for more than seven seconds… congratulations.
You’re legally in the next Farmers Market Missed Connections.

Tuesdays• 8:30–1:00
Pine Creek Shopping Center IN FRONT Of RALEYS!

*Karens, Levitation Specialists and “reverse nudists’” , still encouraged to join us, (mandatory Peach sample enforced) Clothing required.

Missed Connections Update: Part 2 drops Friday.

MISSED CONNECTIONS: GRASS VALLEY FARMERS MARKET

(Where romantic connections are wildly out of season….)

YOU: Standing at the tomato booth in $240 linen pants that somehow made you look both independently wealthy and recently displaced.

ME: Three booths away, pretending to be interested in squash while trying to determine whether you were attractive or I had just been outside too long.

Our eyes met.
You smiled.
I smiled.

Then you picked up an heirloom tomato and asked:
“Was this grown with intention?”

And suddenly—
I needed to know everything about you.

You told the farmer you were “trying to get back to the land.”
You apparently meant your parents’ 14-acre property outside Nevada City.

Still.
I admired your journey.

I saw you again buying a $9 loaf of sourdough while explaining that you had recently “stepped away from traditional employment.”

Judging by the brand-new Sprinter van you arrived in,
traditional employment appears to have stepped away from you very gently.

You had:

a dog named Ram Dass,
a wooden flute sticking mysteriously out of your backpack,
an emotional-support hamster named Gerald,
and a bumper sticker reading:

MONEY IS AN ILLUSION.

You then tapped your Apple Watch to pay.

My heart skipped a beat.
Or possibly that was the cold brew.
Then disaster struck.

A woman named “Sparkles” approached.

She hugged you for an amount of time that raised several questions.

Was she your girlfriend? Your ex? Your acupuncturist? Your landlord?
All four?

This is Nevada County.
I knew better than to ask.

Before I could find out, you disappeared into a crowd of reusable tote bags, feral toddlers and one man explaining cryptocurrency to a zucchini farmer who absolutely did not ask.

If you see this:

Meet me Saturday at the Grass Valley Farmers Market.

I’ll be by the flowers wearing something I bought at a thrift store for $7 that somehow looks exactly like your $240 linen outfit.

You bring Gerald. I’ll bring emotional availability.

Saturdays • 8:00 AM–12:30 PM (in front of JCPENNEY)

07/20/2026

What do you get when you cross three yurts, a chainsaw, six unfinished building projects with no permits, a Subaru held together by bumper stickers, and an emotional-support sourdough starter?

You get Nevada County.

Where someone screamed into the void…
(and three people in North San Juan yelled back.)

Where it frequently takes folks two hours to watch 60 minutes…due to planetary alignment- (is Mercury in…..Gatorade, sir?)

Where someone just listed a moldy trailer with no septic for $1,800 a month — “perfect for a healer.”

Where someone spent Saturday night treating their bloodstream like a chemistry experiment…
then showed up Tuesday deeply concerned about whether the zucchini is organic.

(Standards are important.)

Where a Subaru with a COEXIST sticker aggressively cuts you off and gives you the finger…
Namaste. 🙏

Meanwhile, an unregistered 1980s Mercedes is doing 17 mph down Highway 49 to the Yuba, emitting a mysterious cloud out the window, (large enough to have its own weather system….)

There’s a turnout.

Then another turnout.

Then six more turnouts.

All spiritually declined.

And somehow?

We wouldn’t have you any other way.

❤️ We love you, for the free giggles, beautifully silly, Nevada County!

Now step right up to the Farmers Market, buy something scrumptious and locally grown! It’s a whole vibe!

Nevada County’s Guide to (completely) Unnecessary Affairs

Sorry, folks, but…

Buying organic kale does not automatically undo an entire weekend of poor decisions.

Yep, we’re looking at you—the guy with the man bun who somehow found himself standing in a blackberry bush, playing a wooden flute at a pile of rainbow carrots…

Om Shanti.

(Also, sir… you need a sandwich and a nap.)

…and Welcome to the Grass Valley Farmers Market!

And to you, the interpretive dancer doing contact improv with a loaf of sourdough…

We fully support your artistic expression. However, now that you’ve fondled the bread beyond recognition;(congratulations on your new loaf.)

Further findings include:

• If you own more reusable tote bags than bath towels, the Department is no longer surprised. (Also, sir… the patchouli isn’t masking your funk.)

• A farmers market is not an acceptable substitute for therapy.
(It is, however, significantly more delicious.)

• Your berry pie is not a dependent on your taxes. But your alter ego, “Shaniqua,” might be.

• Unfortunately, folks, “I’m manifesting abundance” is not currently accepted by the Grass Valley Farmers Market as a form of payment. (However, sharing an unsolicited dance move might elicit a free peach sample.)

• People-watching doesn’t count as cardio… unless you’re trying to catch up to the naked guy you swear you recognized from the river.

• “Working on yourself” is admirable. But if you’ve been “finding yourself” at Oregon Creek every day since 2019… we have reason to believe you’ve already been found.

• If your outfit looks like you escaped either Mad Max or a 1973 Grateful Dead parking lot… welcome!

• Conservatives, liberals, ranchers, hippies, homesteaders, and people named Willow all somehow end up buying peaches from the same farmer. Honestly… it’s kind of adorable.

So whether you spent your week building fences, building compost, or building questionable memories at a bass party on the ridge…

Come spend Saturday with your fellow misfits 🤘
