Charlie's Sugar House

Charlie's Sugar House Charlie Chase has been making maple syrup on the farm where he grew up since 1982. This page is run by Charlie's daughter, Becky. Check out our website!

His syrup is consistently Grade A Dark Amber, a flavor Rhode Islanders seem particularly fond of. Glass bottles and plastic jugs can be found in grocery stores and farm stands across the state. www.rimaplesyrup.com

Well, spring was nice while it lasted..

Not sure how the maple flowers will look after this snow, but here are the Norway and swamp maples I've photographed so far. Can you see why the swamp maple tree is also called red maple?

The maple trees are flowering! Swamp maples are first, and have already been open for a week or so. Swamps are also known as red maples, because their flowers are red or orange. Some sugar maple flowers are open already but most are still buds, and they are always yellow.

I found a spot with both types to show you the difference - keep an eye out for them in your neighborhood!
