Update!
I know it has been a while since we've released any announcements or updates on the progress and a lot has happened in our world as a whole within the last several months. So, here it is:

It is with great sadness that we are announcing a halt to the Community Grocery store project. As many of you know, there have been a number of obstacles which we were combating gradually. However, over the past few months with Covid causing us all some unanticipated life changes as well as issues with the landlord, we have had to pause the project and are unsure when we will be able to resume. With that said, we are sending letters and refunds to those who have invested through membership purchases or stock purchases and you should receive them over then next few weeks. We are beyond grateful to all who believed in and supported the vision we have for the store and while we are still committed to serving the community, the new timeline for the store is uncertain.

It's been a little while since we last updated everyone on the status of the store, so here's the update: We did not reach our goal on the number of local memberships and preferred shares sold by the end of the year :-( therefore, we decided to work with an organization who has drafted several new fundraising and grant proposals for us to move forward. In December we submitted multiple grants and as I'm sure many of you know, the grant process takes some time. As far as the anticipated open date, it is now late March to early April. Thanks for all those who have invested, purchased memberships and continue to pray for us. :-)

We get asked alot about hurricanes and flooding in regards to the location we've chosen for the store in Grifton, NC and they are valid questions. In NC flooding is a big deal...Irene, Floyd and most recently Florence have all left behind damage and memories of tragedy. However, we North Carolinians always rise up.We rebbuild. We live. It's in our blood. And while we can't predict when the next big hurricane or flood will occur, we can prepare and that is what we are doing (which is partially why it's taking us longer to open). The location we've chosen is perfect for what we are doing for now and when/if flooding comes we prepare for the worse and hope for the best.
