🚨🥩 THAT RED JUICE IN YOUR STEAK IS NOT BLOOD! 🤯
Yep, you read that right! 👀
That red liquid in your meat is mostly water mixed with MYOGLOBIN, a protein responsible for much of meat’s red color! 🥩🔬
But here’s something else most people DON’T KNOW! 👇
🥩 Ever notice your steak turning brown when it’s been sitting on one side?
🧬 Myoglobin changes color depending on its exposure to oxygen. Sometimes, meat that’s been pressed against another surface can look darker, then turn bright red again when exposed to oxygen!
⚠️ Brown meat doesn’t automatically mean spoiled meat, and red meat doesn’t automatically mean fresh meat!
👨‍⚕️🥩 As a nurse AND a butcher, I believe knowing what you’re putting into your body is just as important as knowing how to prepare it!
