A message from Daniel, our market coordinator:

Recently I made a proposal to the board of trustees of Ross Township to bring a monthly farmers market to Ross.

I have seen concerns about how my proposal would be asking Ross to turn it's back on local farmers and abandon its agricultural history. I want to be frank that is not my intention. I want to bring a farmers market to Ross to embrace, support, and showcase Ross's farmers, crafters, and handmakers. There are dozens of local farm stands in the area that produce amazing goods. I want to create a space for them to meet with the residents of Ross to give them access that they don't normally get.

Ross and the surrounding communities have a wonderful Farm Stand Tour. I think it would be wonderful for all of us to meet, connect, and share.

At my market on Thursday nights I have curated a diverse group of vendors, myself included. Not only do I have farmers and growers, we have bakers, crafters, dog treat makers, artisans, photography, and more. I aim for a 50/50 of food & farmers, and crafters & artisans.

The first choice in vendor selection would be those that live in the Ross area. I believe the best local markets are where the community feeds and shops itself.

About me I am at least a 5th generation farmer. My family has grown and produced everything from beef, pork, and eggs, to hay and cut flowers. My favorite memories growing up were helping my grandpa Rex work the cows, fixing fences, and yes evening throwing hay bales in 100 degree weather. I have my AAS in Agricultural Sciences from Ivy Tech, Richmond.

I have made sustainable food production, elimination of food deserts, and community connection with food my life's goal. That's why I started BC Farm Markets. I know how amazing it is to produce something with your own blood, sweat, and tears. I also know how frustrating it is to have Big Ag tell you that you're doing it wrong because it doesn't fit their mold. When you operate outside of the "norm" finding customers can be extremely difficult. Providing that assistance to my community is why my market exists.

BC Farm Markets LLC is not some shadowy corporatation trying to force its will on our community's food supply. I am the only person in the company. I formed the LLC for insurance, permitting, and accounting purposes. I live in Millville, I shop and support Ross and the surrounding local communities.

I understand that the residents of Ross may be hesitant to have my market in Ross and I would like to welcome you to come out to the Butler County Farmers & Artisan Market on Thursday nights from 5:00-8:00 pm to see our vibrant collection of vendors.

If you would like to talk further, or are a media outlet seeking further details, you can reach me at [email protected].
