Morning chores at Honey Glass Farm. πŸ„πŸ‘πŸ·πŸ”

Water the cows. Feed the sheep. Water the boar. Feed the pigs. Feed the boar. Water the pigs. Feed the cows. Feed Cupid. Feed the chicks.

Every single morning. Every single day. This is what pasture-raised farming actually looks like before any of it becomes a steak, a chop, or a whole bird on your table.

Two veterinarians. One farm manager. 85 acres. A lot of animals that need care regardless of what day it is.

Pasture-raised beef, lamb, chicken, eggs, and honey available at madhorsemeats.com. Nationwide shipping β€” free over $150. Find us at our South Jersey farmers markets monthly through the summer.

Meet Bling Bling. πŸ‘

Bling Bling is the matriarch of our purebred Valais Blacknose flock here at Honey Glass Farm. She is getting a little shaggy β€” her wool is starting to form dreadlocks and shearing day is coming next week. She does not seem concerned.

Valais Blacknose are one of the most striking sheep breeds in the world β€” originally from the Swiss Alps, known for their distinctive black face and legs against a thick curly white fleece. Bling Bling is living proof that the name fits.

Our Valais Blacknose lambs are available for sale at hgfvalaissheep.com. Farm visits welcome.

Sometimes the farm comes inside. πŸ‘

Bottle lambs require feeding every few hours around the clock. Which means they occasionally end up in the living room. In diapers.

Yes. Lamb diapers. This is real farm life.

This is what it looks like when you raise animals the way we do. No shortcuts. If a lamb needs us we are there β€” whatever that looks like.

Not every day on the farm looks like a sunset photo. 🐷

This is Trevor cleaning out the boar's water trough. Muddy, unglamorous, and absolutely essential. Clean water is a basic animal welfare requirement and it does not clean itself.

This is what pasture-raised farming actually looks like behind the scenes. Every animal on this farm β€” our Berkshire heritage boar included β€” gets clean water, good feed, and daily hands-on care from people who show up regardless of what the job looks like that day.

Berkshire heritage pork coming soon to madhorsemeats.com.

This is Whiskey. πŸ‘

Whiskey is one of our Maremma livestock guardian dogs here at Honey Glass Farm. In case you were wondering what a livestock guardian dog does when he is not actively chasing off coyotes or running black vultures away from newborn lambs β€” apparently he climbs to the top of a hay bale and surveys his kingdom.

The sheep below him are completely unbothered. That is the point. When a 100-pound Maremma is on watch the flock can eat, rest, and go about their day without a care in the world. That calm is not accidental. It is exactly what Whiskey is there to provide.

Whiskey lives full time with our rams β€” eating with them, sleeping among them, and keeping watch around the clock. He is one of three livestock guardian dogs on the farm. Cupid, also a Maremma, lives with our cattle. Brandy, our eight-year-old Central Asian Shepherd, is with the ewes and lambs.

We just published a full blog post about livestock guardian dogs β€” their history, how they work, and why they are an essential part of low-stress animal management on a pasture-raised farm. Link in comments.

Grain time for the flock. πŸ‘

Our Cheviot-cross ewes are still getting supplemental grain right now because the lambs are still nursing. Lactation is one of the highest nutritional demands a ewe faces β€” producing enough milk for growing lambs requires more energy than pasture alone can reliably provide this time of year. The grain keeps the ewes in good condition and the lambs growing well.

These are the same animals that produce our pasture-raised lamb here in Hancocks Bridge. Raised on 85 acres of rotating pasture. No added hormones. No routine antibiotics. Handled low-stress by our livestock guardian dogs and border collies every day.

Pasture-raised lamb available now at madhorsemeats.com β€” chops, leg, rack, and artisan sausage.
