Sleepy Dogs Farm is trying something new today. Cotton Candy! Come see us at the South Eden Village Mall for a live spun cone. Price is $5 for a large cone.

We also have the mums out as well as hand embroidered tea towels made by my wife.

First things first, I want to thank everyone for all the support with the mums. I know they are a little "rustic" compared to most that on the market. But everyone has shown that the community support is there and we will keep on keeping on.

We still have plenty of mums on the stand for anyone who is still looking for some. I will likely be setting up at the South Eden Village Mall next weekend to be part of the Spoon River Drive market. $10 each or 2/$15.

Good morning,
I will be setup today, 9/21, at the Casey's in Hanna City with some mums. The plan is to be in the southwest corner of the parking lot. Look for a gray F150 and a sign for mums. I hope to be setup from 9am to noon or so. Please feel free to stop by and take a look. I'm always open to suggestions and criticism. I am by no means an expert grower.

And just to help get some attention I'm going to give away two mums by a random number selection. So comment your number guess, let's say 1-1000 and I will use pick a random number somehow and the person with the closest guess without going over will win. If by chance two people guess the same number it will go to the first guess so please check the other guesses before you post!

Big thanks to Randy Massey for allowing us to setup on site. After living in Peoria for several years I'm loving the small town support!

Update: Mums will be available for sale starting this Saturday, September 13th. I will have a trailer setup near the road with a cash box and Venmo information. Again prices are $10 each or 2/$15.

I will be honest, I am not super happy with the quality of these. They definealty look like they were grown by an amateur, which they were. All I can say is they are all hand potted and cared for on a small scale. And locally grown in Hanna City area. I appreciate the support but I understand if some people stop and decide to pass. All the proceeds from this year will go into the farm to hopefully do better next year. Thanks again-Jason

Well it's been a rocky year at the farm. But I will have multi color mums available in a few weeks. I was hoping they'd be a little fuller than they are but are loaded with blooms.

These will be the type with 2-3 colors per pot. I have multiple variations of color combos. They should be ready by the middle of September. Just putting this out for those who might like to buy local grown flowers.

After thinking about something I could contribute to the group I did think of one thing that might help a few people.

Starting Jan 1 of this year, Illinois passed a law that capped the out of pocket cost of Epi-pens to $60. You still need an prescription but for those who are extremely allergic to insect stings it is more reasonable to carry an Epi than before. Hopefully this helps someone!

Good afternoon,
As the weather is showing signs of spring I wanted to remind the group that we are always willing to pick up honeybee swarms if you have one show up on your property.

I get asked what a "swarm" is often. And the short answer is when a honeybee colony that has outgrown it's current home will split off and look for a new home. In the wild honeybee swarms face low odds of survival due to having to spend huge amounts of energy to build a new hive. If a swarm can be "rehomed" they have better chances of survival which is more important than ever with a very rough winter and beekeepers seeing heavy losses.

So if you come across a swarm like in the picture below feel free to message us and we will be happy to collect them free of charge. If they have settled inside a wall or building we can remove them but ask that the property owner take care of the construction side of the removal, usually called a cutout.

I am putting feelers out if anyone would be interested in reasonably priced pollination services? I would bring a beehive to your property for a preset timeframe to allow the bees to pollinate your fruit trees this spring. Since everyone’s fruit trees will likely come into bloom at the same time, I can only commit to a couple locations at the moment. All income would be reinvested into the operation to help grow the operation. If anyone is interested, please let me know. Thanks!
