I have a counter full of sweet potatoes. I get them on line and I have found they are so stressed from their trip that if I plant right away, most of them die.
So I have learned to put them in jars of water and let them re-root. Of course, this year, its bern too cold to plant them anyway. So here they sit.

Our water runoff pond has often attracted a wide range of wading birds. Often we see egrets and herons. But from time to time we get some unusual migrating birds. In the past we have seen plovers and American avocets. Yesterday, I was so busy watching what I think is a willet (dont hold me to that. My photo is terrible.) that it took me a while to notice the little plover feeding to the right of him. And a few minutes later, the green heron moved in too.

Do any of y’all have ant lions? I didnt take the photos of the larvae or adult. But wanted you to see what they look like. I find these cone shaped holes in dry soil patches— especially under the barn.
The larvae dig these holes and then bury themselves in the bottom and wait. An unsuspecting ant comes to the edge of the hole and slides down to the bottom where the larvae jumps out and grabs it with those sharp jaws. I know they look fearsome but these guys are tiny, cute, and way cool to watch.

It’s too cold but to plant most of them. But I’m trying to get a few of the less picky summer veggies planted before the rain.

You know that feeling? When you know it’s bad news so you avoid having the conversation?

I have been avoiding all the blueberries on the farm because I was sure they froze last week. And look…. They survived!

They are already out. Maybe the cold tonight will kill them?
