🌾 “From Yard to Table: A Simple Forager’s Salad” 🌾
There’s a quiet kind of magic in stepping outside your door, basket in hand, and gathering a meal the way folks once did—slow, mindful, and close to the earth.
If you look closely, your own yard may already be offering a humble feast.
🌿 Safe & Common Backyard Greens 🌿
🍃 Dandelion (Taraxacum officinale)
Young leaves are best—slightly bitter, but full of goodness. The flowers can be tossed in for a pop of sunshine.
🍃 Chickweed
Tender, mild, and juicy. A perfect base green for any wild salad.
🍃 Plantain
Not the banana—this low-growing leaf is gentle in taste and soothing to the body.
🍃 Wild Violet
Soft leaves and sweet little flowers—beautiful and entirely edible.
🍃 Wood Sorrel
Looks like clover, tastes like lemon. A bright, tangy addition (enjoy in small amounts).
⚠️ A Few Old Ways to Stay Safe ⚠️
• Only harvest what you can clearly identify—when in doubt, leave it be
• Avoid roadsides, sprayed lawns, and places pets frequent
• Rinse everything well in cool water
• Try a small amount first if it’s new to you
🥣 A Simple Yard Salad 🥣
Gather a handful of each green
Add a sprinkle of violet flowers
Toss with:
• A drizzle of oil
• A splash of vinegar
• A pinch of salt
That’s all you need. Honest food. Nothing fancy.

A good cast iron skillet gets better with age. If you treat it right.
The mistake most people make is too much oil. A thin coat — barely anything on the paper towel — is what builds that smooth black surface over time. Too much and it gets sticky.
🥘 METHOD:
Wash and dry the skillet completely. Rub a very thin layer of shortening or flaxseed oil all over, inside and out. Place it upside down in a 450°F oven for one hour. Turn the oven off and let it cool inside.
Do this a few times and it'll outlast everything else in your kitchen. 🍳🔥👨‍🍳

White Clover has been used in traditional herbal practices for generations. It’s that low-growing plant with little white puffball flowers you see in lawns and fields.
🌿 Common herbal uses
1. Blood purifier (traditional use)
Historically used to “cleanse” the blood—this usually refers to supporting the body’s natural detox systems like the liver.
2. Skin support
Infusions (tea or washes) have been used for:
Eczema
Psoriasis
Minor wounds
Its mild anti-inflammatory properties can help soothe irritated skin.
3. Respiratory relief
White clover tea has been used for:
Coughs
Colds
Mild bronchial irritation
4. Lymphatic support
Some herbal traditions use it to help reduce swelling or support lymph flow.
5. Women’s health (mild phytoestrogen)
It contains plant compounds that may have gentle estrogen-like effects, sometimes used for:
Menstrual balance
Menopause symptoms (mild support, not strong like red clover)
🍵 How it’s typically used
Tea (most common):
Dry the flowers, then steep 1–2 teaspoons in hot water for 10–15 minutes
Topical wash:
Use cooled tea on skin
Salves:
Infused into oil for skin remedies
