🦐 ✨Shrimp Season is Here! ✨🦐

The boat came into Hatteras yesterday and unloaded these beauties. Most of the catch was medium brown shrimp but a few jumbo greentails showed up. The jumbo has been running about 12-15 pieces per pound! We won’t see size on the brown shrimp for a couple more weeks and not sure if we’ll see jumbo greentails like this again next haul but are freezing a few if you want to try them!

When the shrimp get this big we like to peel and devein with the tail on and then butterfly them. This way is perfect for deep frying or grilling. For dinner last night, I marinated a pound in Japanese bbq for 20 minutes and grilled for about 5 minutes. They went too fast, so tonight I will cook 2 pounds!

A few other notes - Graham and the Prowler boat are back in the water! Thank you to everyone who donated and sent us kind messages, y'all helped so much. He had a terrible time getting everything back together and thank god he survived the ordeal. We are sorry if anyone has had to deal with spammers on our posts posing as us selling merchandise. We have updated our page's security so hopefully no more spam posts make it in.

Also, we are looking for Mr. Curtis who was involved in the accident in front of our shop today, if you are in his group please stop by!

We have good news and bad news. The good news is we are now open daily 11:00am - 7:00pm so more time for y’all to order steamed seafood in the evenings! The bad news is Graham had an accident at sea this week and nearly lost his life and the boat. We had a friend come in the store around 1:30 pm a few days ago and say, "I don't want you to panic, Graham is ok, but he is sinking offshore."

Thankfully Graham's quick thinking saved his life: he had nothing to stop the water so took off his oil skins to plug the hole. He then put on his survival suit, sent out a distress call and started bailing. A few charter boats heard his distress call so cut their fishing lines and instantly went to help. A couple hours later, the Coast Guard arrived just in time with a pump to save the boat before it fully sunk.

Graham is lucky to make it home but caused about $50,000 in damages for which he does not have enough saved to cover. So Alana started this fundraiser hoping to raise enough for the new engine ($30,000) and get Graham back fishing! Please visit the link to read the full story and consider donating. Thank you everyone for always being there for us and for your continued support of our family businesses over the years!

P.S. The picture below is of the boat after a few hours bailing, the guy on the bow is waiting to catch the tow line.

Please help us rebuild my brother's fishing boat after sinking at sea! This we… Alana Harrison needs your support for Help Graham Rebuild his Fishing Business

Our crab dip is being featured at an art gallery tomorrow in this beautiful dish 🤗 Y’all know Hatteras Island is home to amazing artists but did you know there is a gallery hop the first Friday of the month?! Select galleries along Hatteras Island participate by hosting an open house featuring local art and food.

We are excited that our friend Gracie at the Blue Lagoon in Frisco asked us to highlight local seafood for her open house tomorrow! Gracie’s husband is a commercial snapper-grouper fisherman in Hatteras and docked next to the Prowler boat for many years. (This is probably where she fell in love with our seafood enchiladas 😊)

Since she is a fisherman’s wife, her gallery is full of fish art, local photographs, and coastal pottery! Example is this beautiful crab serving dish just perfect for hot crab dip 🦀

There is also jewelry, photographs, dog accessories, and a chocolate counter! I took a video of my mom showing us around, I am hoping to get it on our YouTube this week so stay tuned 😊

Back by popular demand 👏 We have a fresh batch of our Wild & Crazy Shrimp Dip with jalapenos and bacon. Be careful with this stuff! I started with one cracker but before I knew it, I ate a half pound and almost spoiled my tuna dinner.... Tomorrow, I will try it on a toasted croissant with lettuce and tomato for breakfast.

We also have fresh tuna steaks and will be making tuna salad tomorrow! We sold out of shrimp pasta salad today but will probably make it again in a couple days. My mom's birthday is on the 10th so stop by on Monday to enjoy in our celebrations! 🎈

We have a special treat in the market this week that we haven’t seen in a long time. These are local Spotted shrimp or pink shrimp, are super sweet just like our brown shrimp but more tender. They are appropriately named after the red spot on their side and pink tipped tails.

Spotted shrimp make up less than 1% of North Carolina’s shrimp landings. They are caught before July so shrimp boats usually are not going this early.

Hopefully this is a sign of a great shrimp season! The shrimp boats are out again so fresh shrimp through the week and the summer now excusing any bad weather.

Our phones are still in and out, the technician is coming this week so please visit us in person, email us at [email protected] or order online.

Our Story

Harbor House Seafood offers the rare opportunity for the public to access fresh local, wild-caught fish. We are the only retail seafood market on Hatteras Island holding a Federal Gulf and South Atlantic Dealer Permit. We are authorized to buy directly from federally permitted vessels in all fisheries and process their catch for public purchase.

Harbor House Seafood is a family owned and operated business located in Hatteras, NC. Led by Vicki Harrison, alongside her husband Robert, a retired commercial fisherman, and children, Graham and Alana. Robert passed on the reels to Graham in 2015 and ever since he has been filling our counters with fresh, local wild-caught fish.
