Village of Haverstraw

Village of Haverstraw The Village of Haverstraw was incorporated in 1854. One of Haverstraw’s greatest assets is its architecture.

Haverstraw was also known as the “Brickmaking Capital of the World” from the late 1800’s through the first part of the 1900’s. This farmers' market, located in the historic Village of Haverstraw
will be open each Sunday, starting June 13th from 9am-1pm

This market is vital to the Greater Haverstraw Community. It’s not just about healthy eating and buying fresh-picked, local produce, it’s about co

mmunity building. The market is a snapshot of local culture – a place where local residents can come together in a vibrant public space and share in the life of the community. In addition to the usual market items for sale, they're are demonstrations, a children's area, and other activities/events. Say hello to your market managers Elaine, Rolanda and Gisbeth! Ask your local farmers for tips on how to prepare your FRESH ingredients! Most of all, enjoy a few hours relaxing and catching up with your neighbors at your LOCAL, friendly, informative Haverstraw Harvest Farmers' Market!

The Sing Sing Prison Museum and the Haverstraw Brick Museum have launched a joint ad campaign on Metro-North Railroad platforms. Visitors can take the Haverstraw-Ossining Ferry to both historic sites, and spend the day learning about the labor that shaped both sides of the Hudson.

The upcoming dates for SSPM’s “Sink or Sing” walking tours are 5/30, 5/31, 6/27, 6/28, 7/25, 7/26, 8/29 & 8/30. Tours will continue to run on the last weekend of every month—Saturdays and Sundays—at 10:00 AM, 12:00 PM, 2:00 PM, and 4:00 PM through August.

From the Hudson River School of Art and a bustling port community to the walled fortress of a maximum-security prison, there is so much to explore and see in a mile radius. Learn about the building of the 1825 original cell block, the quarrying of Sing Sing marble, and the origin of the US penal philosophy and design. They will also discuss the labor that built Sing Sing, products developed here, and some innovative examples of reform and rehabilitation. The tour will end with a reflective art making project, led by a previously incarcerated person, to link you back to the Hudson River School and their individual experiences. Tours will take place rain or shine.

Brick Museum: Upon disembarking the Haverstraw ferry, take a 10 minute walk along West St. to reach the museum. Hours: 1-4pm Saturday/Sunday. After your visit stroll to over 20+ restaurants.
